Next Scotland Manager

Recommended Posts

Disagree with last sentence, given our situation we shouldn't be discounting anyone because it may or may not be too soon for them.

Sorry GroundskeeperWillie, just to clarify mate, my comment wasn’t meant on them being to early in their career that they have to go out and gain experience, far from it, but I do think it’s too early in their careers for them to be interested in moving to international football, in my opinion.

Any reason why international teams can only call up players of that nationality but there is no restriction on the manager?

Seems a bit daft to insist on only having a Scottish manager when that rule doesn't even exist.

Time to lean into our shitness and bring in a dirty dozen-style rotating cast of b*****ds.

Mackay, Allardyce, Steve Evans, Sergeant Wilson. Not the heroes we need but the ones we deserve.

Isn't it purely because Berti Vogts was considered shite that we have this?  Like getting the shits from a dodgy Indian curry-house and then refusing to eat at any, regardless of quality, from then on.

To further torture the metaphor, you could say that it doesn't matter, you can get the finest steak at home, but then they open the fridge and it's just ground up gym mats.  Presumably the SFA went with the best option that wanted the job, and look where we are now.  With a ground up gym mat.

^^^ bullied by gym mats when he was younger IMO

It says a lot about the SFA that the bookies think that if McLeish is to get punted, Strachan is favourite for the job.

I guess 'cause you could get round it quite easily!?

Appoint someone who meets the criteria whilst the desired foreign manager is making all the key desisions in the background.

Countries have been able to call up players of any nationality for ages now.

The entire SFA need cleared out. All coaches in the national setup should be punted. Project Brave should be ripped up and never spoken of again. The 'Largs Handbook' should be shredded and never spoken of again.

That's just the start of what needs to happen.

It won't of course.  Nothing will happen and this will continue for years to come.

100% agree with this essentially the root cause, whilst other nations have moves forward we are trapped in a bygone era repeating the same errors with the same people time & time again within a closed shop. In term of adminastrive bodies  we have the SFA , SJFA,  SAFA, SWFA, SYFC, SPFL, SWFL, HL, LL & for e a country of 5 million people.

If we really wasn't to progress we need to channel resources at the very grass roots football in the current world competes with a vast array of alternatives for kids that didn't exist in the past & with facilities that are not fit for purpose & hold no attraction.

I share your fear that we will ultimately do nothing as there is a prevailing attitude of we know best & this is the ways we've always done things etc...….. ,  amidst an umbrella of self protectionism.

So unless turkeys start voting for Christmas  I can only see us continuing to be served up worsening sub standard fodder.

"That didn't work the last 10 times we tried, but we'll keep on doing it anyway" should be the SFA's motto.

Not that I think McLeish will be sacked before the end of the qualifying games regardless of results, but I'd love to see Alex Neil come in. Done well with Norwich and is doing well with PNE with average players on a presumably small budget for the league.

It’s the smallest budget in that league. He’s doing a great job. Think it will be Steve Clarke though.

There's no way that Preston have a lower budget than yo-yo League One dross like Rotherham. Fake news.

Why would Steve Clarke want to join an absolute shambles of an international setup now, when he's currently well-placed to secure a decent job when he decides to return to his family south of the border? Other than the benefit of being able to travel down there practically year round there's nothing to be gained from his point of view.

Scotland will be rummaging around the disregarded skip of football management for their next pick, there is neither the budget nor the credible pitch to attract a manager currently in the game at a decent level.

Unless there's a real vocal and visible opposition to the sfa nothing will change because they don't really answer to anyone sadly. I'm not usually one for protests and all that but they are rotten to the core and nothing is going to improve under them. It's shambles after shambles from them

No budget? f**k off.

Scotland couldn't even compete with the failed statelet for Michael O'Neill's services, so having no credible budget is an already proven fact.

Pretty much this.  We've managed to take what should be an attractive prospect (historically good nation playing well within themselves with the ability to qualify for a major tournament, and essentially a chance to become a God amongst fans) and turned it into a ****ing drudge that no-one wants

£500k + p/a for a part time role with few expectations seems like a pretty good salary to me.

We are paying substantially more than the likes of Sweden & Croatia so it's not exactly a tuppence happeny position.
