Ballsy posting here from fans of a team sitting five points clear of a relegation playoff spot in the Championship.

Saint Mirren fans would rob their own grandmothers to be five points clear of a playoff right now, never mind having a stack of dross teams below them as well to guarantee a midtable finish. So really not 'ballsy' as much as 'understanding how a league table works' then.

Though I can see that your fans are clearly struggling with that concept given their braying applause for all 21 of your 'unlucky' defeats so far this campaign.

Yes, that first part is true for the league we're in, though can I check you know we're in a higher league than you, right? And we wouldn't swap places with you for any amount of money? You do understand how the league system works, don't you?

Edit:  at the accidental comedy of a 'guaranteed mid-table finish' in the fucking Championship. No wonder you're strutting around here. :lol:

Except that the chump that you're trying to white knight for specifically claimed that we'd be two divisions below the top flight next season, which isn't actually going to happen.

So apart from completely failing to understand the thread content and then yammering away to yourself like a stupid old man again, another solid 0/10 contribution from yourself.

Switch accounts to whom exactly? Looks like we can add paranoia to your latest, rolling breakdown.

Meh. Wasn't white-knighting anyone, that was just a coincidence. For the record, though, I think his double relegation line was just a joke.

Morton fans would shag their grans even more to be where we are. So lets not play this game [emoji39].

Just seen the "Panenka". The criticism by the tedious old farts of Scottish football is bollocks.

If he actually hits a Panenka, it goes in. The problem is that he doesn't hit a Panenka. I don't know if he shat the bed or was just trying to roll it down the middle, but either way, that's not a Panenka.

It's classic dense Scottish football thinking that if he hits it left and the keeper saves it, or if he'd hit a Panenka properly, there wouldn't have been criticism. But bad execution suddenly makes it a bad decision? That's nonsense.

He tries to hit a panenka and fluffs it. There's a reason you don't see many of them struck, and that's because it's a risky penalty to hit.  It's a showboat penalty, to make you look good and the keeper a bit daft. Looks great when it comes off though.

As his manager said, if you're 3-0 up and cruising then why not?  But st Mirren needed 3 points anyway they could get them last night, and a decision to take a high risk penalty was a poor one in the circumstances.

He tried to chip it, but seems to scuff the ground before connecting with the ball.

Penalties are a percentage game, chipping it has a lower success rate than a standard approach, that's why people are criticising him, you dont take risks in a game like that.

Every season ticket holder in Paisley should be allowed to have a go at penanking his baws. Most would go laces through him.

Does anyone claiming Panenkas have a lower success percentage have any numbers to back it up?

Chipped penalties, by their nature, are one of the weaker penalties you can hit, so yes, theres some numbers to back it up.

If you’re a shagger like Zidane, Pirlo or Hazard, then by all means hit a panenka.

If you play for some tinpot Glasgow outfit like Jackson, then don’t be so daft.

You're funny.

Agree with all of this.

The only small credit you can give him is that he judged that the keeper would commit, and he got that spot on.

Indeed the keeper committed to such a level that even a crap Panenka would have succeeded.

Sadly, the execution of his penalty was 10 times worse than crap,

Jesus Christ man. No source, no reference, no relevance to direction the ball was hit, no relevance to Panenkas, nothing.

Try this: a study of all 459 penalties in the French and Italian leagues 1997-2000, published in 2002, showed 70.1% hit to the right were scored, 76.7% hit to the left were scored, and 81% hit down the middle were scored. It's the first statistically significant study of penalties scored in ordinary play in league matches that I found in the 5 minutes I spent looking. Feel free to look for more. http://pricetheory.uchicago.edu/levitt/Papers/ChiapporiGrosecloseLevitt2002.pdf
