There is guy connected with Airdrie whos company had to do with the main stand at tynecastle. Perhaps he could help Gartcairn in someway.

Stuart Shields, BSB Structural Limited.

Just got to think about stand positioning and quality of the cover.Every time we have been at Petershill and it has rained the stand has been useless-first 10 rows unusable as the seats were completely exposed and soaked throughout.

you cant control the scottish weather matey, agree position the stand with the back to the prevailing wind, i remember posting a thread on here about doing diy conversions of 40 ft containers having seen them at lochgelly raceway, basically as a diy solution it would be more cost effective, a used container is about £1500 plus transport, any blacksmith could fabricate 3 step risers from steel box section with steel plating, you might even get away with timber if you treat it with fireproofing paint and ensure no gaps in the boards and strictly no smoking.

perhaps junior clubs who are planning such stands could work together and pool ideas and resources to make a cheaper option, if you could get away with using timber then a budget of 5k completed must be achievable

A quick Google reveals there are so many different uses for shipping containers these days, pulling together a decent design for a pick-up-and-drop seated stand shouldn't be beyond a Scottish manufacturer willing to do it.  Make it look good, with tip up seats, maybe even a disabled cut out to help clubs who are going down the licence route, and you might be onto a good value winner.  You could even have a cheaper terrace only option to quickly get cover for 100.

This is something g we have looked at, I’ve talked with a Chinese manufacturer that can make 3 row seating sets, so all your really need to do is cut away the front and sides, might try a few standing ones as a temporary solution

why not talk to a local fabricator, take the photos and ask if they can put 3 rows of seats into 20 and 40 ft containers, gas axe the front and sides keeping the uprights for structural rigidity, steps made from welded box section with chequerplate pop riveted on, then bolt your seats on. Once the 1st set is done make up jigs to make standard parts... Reckon the likes of McEvoy engineering at ardeer could do that in their sleep

They did our cover but also do seated stands. Think they did a seated stand for Easthouses Lily. They did four seated stands for Salford City so they’re not a small company, but they might be worth a look

Your stand looks decent. Does it provide adequate cover when it rains as i always thing terracing like this need the roof to stick out a bit more. What kinda price do they come in at ?

Try Marquis Fabrication in coatbridge, It wouldn’t be hard to fabricate/convert a shipping container into a stand. Would be a good project for these guys and cant see it being anymore than 5k-10k.

Pretty straight forward work, Installing upstands for support and steel profiles for shape

  • 2 weeks later...

Its quite a sensible move, they build student accomodation from these kinda things and there’s markets all over the world made out of these containers, cracking way to recycle something so big.
