Michael Jackson - Massive Nonce

I see there were protests today outside Channel 4 headquarters over the showing of the documentary.  I don't know why or what it is about him, but a lot more than anyone else, MJ's fans seem to be, by and large, barking mad.  It's almost a cult.  I know he was massive, but so were the Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, U2 etc. but they don't seem to have fans who are totally bonkers.  I know The Beatles had fans who were nuts, but surely not to this level.

You could actually imagine that some of these people could witness MJ abusing these kids and they would either justify it or claim it didn't happen.

I don’t know if there’s anyone today who you could compare to him to - he was absolutely massive, one of the most famous people on the planet. He was also completely batshit for most of his life so maybe attracted similar people.

Mark Lester's interview this morning with Lorraine Kelly is horrendous.  Refers to the boy who took MJ to court as 'cancer boy' and says the two guys in the documentary 'makes his flesh crawl'.  He's totally in denial.

They couldn't get a better character witness than a guy named M.Lester?

I thought the topic was more about his cock than his stature. Bet he was tiny there too though.

I’m sure there’s a joke to be made about the whole black/white thing and penis size stereotypes.

A few of those facts don't necessarily indicate abuse. Numbers 1, 2 and 5 don't look good for him. Fact number 6 isn't great either and does prove that he showed young children pornography. Fact number 7 is disappointing in that it uses a dog-whistle homophobia as supporting evidence of paedophilia. An old trope that shouldn't have an airing here. So of all the "facts", barely half of them are relevant or useful as evidence of abuse.  The rest of the "Undeniable Facts " that you "need to know"  were part of the case against him. It was known before that he lavished gifts on the families of the boys, that he admitted to sharing his bed with boys. It seems like rubber-necking journalism, of the type that's fairly common when allegations like this break.

I watched the first part of last night's programme, it was really hard to listen to.  My wife was incredulous at the parents allowing their kids to sleep in the same room as a grown man, even if he was clearly a deeply odd person.

I watched it and it was very uncomfortable viewing. Would the parents have let their children sleep in the room with a grown man of he wasn't a rich popstar? Would they f**k.

I havent seen all of Leaving Neverland yet but from what i have seen and from watching Surviving R Kelly some of these parents are needing to take a long hard look at themselves.

Who lets their children sleep in the same bed as a grown adult they dont know? Too many of the parents thinking about some kind of music career for their child or just seeing how mucb they can mooch without thinking "this guy is spending far two much timw with my child, alone, in his bedroom!"

unfortunately it's going to be just about impossible to erase him from music history like has been done with glitter.  he was once the biggest star in the world and has a massive legacy fanbase and his music is still popular. glitter was f**k all in comparison

Don't some of Gary Glitter's songs still get played at American sports venues to gee the crowd up? I heard some of his hits were big over there, but he wasn't very famous himself, so folk didn't really hear about his predilections.

Anyway, we'd be better off with a "entertainers from yesteryear who weren't sexual predators" thread at this point. We can come back to it in thirty years and see if anything's changed with the current crop. I'd guess...probably not.

I'm sure I read a while back that Glitter still makes more than a million a year in royalties, largely due to the NHL using his music during games. Think one of the other big sports there also does the same.
