Rugster
What an utter c**t to admit it at this late stage after putting the family and jury through a trial where all the gory details were played out.

welshbairn
Minimum of 27 years, less than it would have been if he was an adult.

I'm not sure if the judge is legally obliged to knock some time off for admitting it, however late, but if he is I hope he takes about 10 minutes off the maximum sentence for putting everyone through that.

He should be adding time on for what Rugster said and the fact he implicated an innocent woman.

I'm not too clued up on law but I don't imagine you could add time on to a maximum sentence which is what I'm guessing he'll get.

This. Shame he couldn't be sentenced as an adult but life with a minimum of 27 years is probably a record for a child.

Highly doubt he’ll be granted parole after he’s done 27 years either.

Will you now accept you know nothing about criminal sentencing, and not presume that it must be soft because... I don't understand why, but it's a myth people seem to believe.

There's no maximum sentence for murder. When his 27 years are up, if he's assessed as a danger he'll be going nowhere. Worth noting that he got the same minimum as Megrahi, the biggest convicted mass murderer in British history.

They can only reduce it if the accused pleads guilty before trial. Had he done so he'd likely have got a third off, and got a minimum of 18 years. In practice judges and Sheriffs often crank up what they say they would have given, so the sentence handed down to someone pleading guilty is actually more that two-thirds of what they would have got.
