Regarding Fiona Onasanya, MP for Peterborough who was recently convicted for perverting the course of justice, she could face a by election. The rules are that if you are sentenced to prison for less than a year you face a recall petition. The procedure is that within ten days of your conviction or appeal being denied the returning officer opens up to ten signing points in your constituency where registered voters in your constituency can sign to demand a by election. These points remain open for six weeks. If after this point 10% of the eligible voters have signed then there is a by election. Most British constituencies have around 70,000 voters so around 7000 signatures are needed.

Other than convictions of less than 12months, this process can be started if an MP is censured by the standards committee or convicted of fraudulently claiming expenses. The only time it’s been done before is for Ian Paisley Jnr, who was censured by the Standards Committee. Just under 10% of ha constituency signed so there was no by election.

Have they got any additional policies yet to go alongside their 'we don't like Brexit or Jeremy Corbyn' manifesto ?

Lots of people don’t like Brexit and Jeremy Corbyn though. So it’s a good start. Hopefully better than my run in the primary school elections under a ‘More Homework, Less Playtime’ ticket.

These 10 MPs have performed political suicide. They will find themselves in the political wilderness for years all because of Brexit. Complete morons

The perceived wisdom seems to be that this breakaway from these MP’s  makes an election this year all the more likely.

It will be interesting to see how many more join up and what they morph into before their legs are cut out from underneath them. I would suggest time is not on their side to sort their shit out.

That's a terrible take. You're assuming they care more about their careers than about Brexit. For most of them at least, that appears not to be true.

The majority of her constituents voted for her:huh:

Technically, they didn't - she got less than 47% of the vote.

She’s been the MP for Broxtowe for nearly 19 years. Have they just realised she’s a fraud now?

As the voice of Broxtowe I beg for your enlightenment.

You're either half pished or a simpleton.

Been their MP since 2010.

Take your time now.

Watched the Preston show early on twitter. TIG are terrified of a snap election and Mandelson is desperate to join them with Blair but realises that would f**k them from the start. And Sajid Javid more or less admitted his ban on the IS teenager is illegal.

To me TIG may be stuck between a rock and a hard place right off the bat.

It appears they’re leaving their group deliberately vague in the hope that it swells their ranks. But the spectre of a snap election looms over them and you’d imagine they would have to have some concrete policies/party form in place for that.

Say what you like about Soubry, but she’s gone all in for May now...

In another interview she called a Chris Grayling a “pitiful failure” and I think getting to insult Chris Grayling is probably the strongest reason Tories have for resigning.
