Club Licencing

Recommended Posts

I'm hearing that the SFA have further delayed making licence decisions and Maxwell and Petrie will both attend Thursdays EoS meeting.

This is going to get very messy indeed.

Ooft. Some heavy justification is going to need to be provided on Thursday, at this point it looks like they are actively working against clubs and Scottish football as a whole.

Not just that. The majority of these applications were meant to be finalized back in February. It was only a death that caused the cancellation of the SFA board meeting.

If they're now taking advantage of that unfortunate circumstance to push through an agenda that's arisen since February they're not exactly covering themselves in glory.

Agenda or not.

The SFA should have acted as a governing body from the outset. Instead they sat back and watched a PWG fight their own corners to the detriment of the bigger picture.

End of April and we still have more questions than answers.

If they attempt to tie licensing to their view of the pyramid, that's a flat-out abuse of process. Clubs who have, in good faith, spent money on ground improvements and paid for an inspection in order to be considered for a licence woulde have a civil case against the SFA.

We've had the licence embargo,  we've had floodlights, we've had the board meeting cancellation and now we have a deferment for an undefined period of time.

We've also had Neil Doncaster join the SFA Board representing the SPFL,  we've had Maxwell appointed CEO, ex-SPFL representative on the board, Petrie about to assume the Presidency from an SPFL club, and we have Mike Mulraney  from SPFL club Alloa.

Could be pure co-incidence of course why all of a sudden the SFA are not too keen on new licence applications which potentially could cut money available to SPFL clubs.

So perhaps this is unconnected to the Pyramid discussions, but it stinks none-the-less.  Are they padding it out until SFA AGM?

We've had some pretty useless administrators in the past, maxwell might be new to the job but he's making some effort to get the top spot.

Ah but:

"The Scottish FA's vision is to inspire a nation," he said. "That’s exactly what we are here for. I have led teams from playing in them, from being an assistant manager to then running a club. As the national association, the onus is on us to drive football forward at every level."

In the 11  months in the job he has made a huge difference right enough the inspiration has been overwhelming

Is there not some obscure rule that prohibits clubs taking the Association to task in such a manner?

Cast iron bargaining chip as I suspected when Rod raised the issue at pwg.

At least all the money bar the 2k is well spent.

Also note the email was written today so been sitting on this for days.

If they try to use it as a form of blackmail, they are opening a very large can of worms.

My next guess is if the eos do not bow to pressure then the SFA may still grant 1 license. Strategically to whoever wins the eos playoff. That will protect integrity of pyramid in their eyes. Rest will be made to suffer with no pot of milk and honey.

Bringing the juniors into the senior pyramid opens up a huge number of clubs to being eligible for a licence.  Yet they also apparently don't want more licensed clubs?

I dont think its ever been in doubt that there has always been a massive fear of spreading the pot of gold. Hence the obvious step of adding floodlights.

More conditions surely to follow.

For the average punter all these improved facilities are not before time, license or not.

I get that but why then are they so desperate to add so many clubs to the pyramid?   Keep them out the pyramid and they can't apply for a licence.
