Club Licencing

Recommended Posts

Good news all round for the six clubs waiting for the licencing news. Congratulations to each of them Hard work rewarded!

With Bo'ness United moving up to the Lowland League this leaves the EoS with 20 licenced clubs.  As far as I am aware from social media  and past P&B posts there are at least 9 more clubs making preparations to join them.

Does anyone know if any of the 10 new/returned clubs have plans to become licenced?

Love it. It's great when you see folk's hard work and fundraising be rewarded. The men and women doing the heavy lifting at these clubs are laying down foundations that will benefit their clubs and their communities for decades.

Guess the date it is effective from bit means it's best to hold off on assuming anything about promotion for now.

Last season the clubs had their effective from date as the AGM the day before, presumably this season it would be today or at the 2020 AGM if it's held next month. I think the clubs would've said something if they were not going to become members until say August.

Cumnock and Petershill had their applications in as far back as early last year. Auchinleck Talbot are currently putting in floodlights and Darvel are about to:

I look forward to the time when the majority of non-league teams are licensed and we have a truly inclusive, varied and enjoyable Scottish Cup, similar to the English one.

Well done to all the teams and committees and volunteeers in the East

Anybody know how many teams in the West of Scotland are licensed or down that road? Just thinking about promotion playoff next year!!

As you will have seen from the EoSFL experience there's going to be quite a few, and perhaps some surprises along the way.

In terms of the promotion play-off: Cumnock Juniors are meant to have an ongoing licencing application. Then Auchinleckt Talbot, Kilwinning Rangers, and Darvel are known to be installing floodlights (as the big ticket item) and other ground/infrastructure improvements with licencing as the end goal. The likes of Clydebank, Rutherglen Glencairn, Benburb (and Rossvale through Benburg groundshare) have floodlights so probably have other ground/infrastructure improvements to make. That's 8/20 that might be in for a shout of getting licenced.

Out of former West Superleague or Premiership champions not mentioned:Kilwinning Rangers are raising funds for licencing but describe themselves as a couple of seasons away. Pollok are usually noted as having some issues to resolve to get into licencing shape. Haven't heard much about Beith and Glenafton, but i'm sure they won't want to be left behind however long it might take.

Your last sentence is the crucial one and it covers a lot of clubs.  Those without the foresight to switch to the Senior game will gradually die off, some quicker than others.  Clubs not looking to achieve licenced status may be happy living in a bubble, witness the West Lothian clubs, or perhaps do not believe it is financially feasible.  The latter is understandable, the former is plain daft.

Two WoSL clubs are already licensed and play in the Scottish Cup annually.  They are Glasgow University and Girvan FC

Fantastic news for all the clubs gaining their licence hopefully more continue to join them in the future. Would love an away day for the Rovers to a non SPFL team in the cup. Good luck to the teams still working towards gaining their licence they’ll be excellent additions to the Cup and possibly the SPFL in the future.

Does that mean Dunipace are in the big Scottish Cup?

Yes for Dunipace and for the other five clubs, assuming the "big" Scottish Cup can be fitted into the 2020/21 football calendar ?

I notice that although its AGM has been held,  the SFA has yet to update the list of Licensed Clubs, to include the 6 new licencees.  Is there a problem, or is it merely poor administration. Either way, it is sloppy.

RJ , are you aware of the SFA proposal to allow only 10 clubs outwith the 42 SPFL to play in the Scottish ? See The Cups forum for the details.

On last season's form, they would have a stronger competition with 42 clubs from the EoSFL and 10 others.
