Club Licencing

Recommended Posts

From my reading of the SLFL rules, three member clubs could request a Special General Meeting, at which it would be possible to alter the rules. Changing the rules in-season is a no-no, as we've seen from the Selkirk debacle, but we're talking about the rules that would apply for next season. They could, maybe, insert a clause allowing the board or a sub-committee to give clubs a one-year derogation from the need to hold a licence - that would give the others without lights until next summer to get them, too. If that's too loose then they could add a requirement that clubs have lights by 1 September.

I don't know if they'd need SFA approval to change the rules, though.

Whitehill won't be relegated without a licenced EoS champion so they are safe. If Cove beat Berwick then the LL is back to 16 teams and there's no vacancy for Linlithgow to sneak in via the back door.
I and most Rose fans totally disagree with this decision but you can't give this sneak via the back door chat.

We've been ahead of all this for years and already spent the cash. So if we go up then that's the way it is.

I really fancy the EoS next year but if we go up on application it's testement to the hard work of the committee. Not a council grant in sight.

Anyone who thinks we wouldn't be getting promoted on merit if we'd spend £70k on the playing squad instead of lights is in cloud cookoo land.

Sneak in via the back door = Not on footballing merit.

The thing is there has been such a carry on with the club 16 scenario I as a ww fan would've accepted relegation on the basis of Cove beating Berwick because technically we would be 2nd bottom now.

That permutation seems to have long gone then  ?

Who spends 70k on players  ?

I'm pointing out the cost lost in squad investment in paying for floodlights.

Gimme I'd like to qualify on those terms but itd be better someone goes up rather than no one imo.

Because Councils hand out money to clubs like sweeties, no hard work required on the clubs part to get it

What we really need is a root and branch review of the SFA and the appointment of fresh blood - the appointment of people who genuinely have the good of Scottish football at heart and as a priority.

Erm the SFA just appointed a new chief executive with an extensive background in Scottish football: he's fucking useless though.

Filling out forms is hardly blood sweat and tears.

Grants being obtained not because of football prowess but purely because clubs tick the right boxes in a modern Snowflake Society.  You have to wonder where these clubs would actually be without artificial funding (not self generated)

Whilst other Clubs spend their own money to enhance their own park - built up through years of toil.  Days like yesterday must make them wonder why bother.  It's hardly a level playing field - and questionable if footballing ability actually matters anymore.

Of course and no disrespect intended but it's even harder to do it alone. As Bonnyrigg are finding out just now.

How would you know though? I know from personal experience trying to persuade Councils and Councillors to help clubs is no easy task and can literally take years with umpteen hoops to jump through, and with no guarantee you'll get anything.

Raising major finance whether you own your ground or lease it is no easy task.  It rips my knitting when it's implied that Councils just hand you money when you need it. Nothing could be further from the truth.

You just expose your own utter ignorance of the subject.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say the raising of £70k then the pecurement process thereafter requires more effort than applying for a grant. We've done both (for the disabled shelter) so maybe someone in the know can help.

Not every club has the resources to raise £70k for floodlights, very very few in fact.  The snootiness of the comment "not a Council grant in sight" is just a disparaging remark to those clubs who work damn hard to secure funding to improve what they have, whether that be a shelter, toilets, lights, or a whole new ground.

It all requires hard work and effort, but to some looking down from their lofty perch  it's just ticking a box on a form

Not to mention the tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands of pounds said clubs have to raise over future years to maintain and replace. The hard work never stops.

That's a fair point well made. As I said it wasn't intended that way.

The point is, it's hard work for all of us keeping clubs going, big or small, and we've then got to try and plan for the SFA chucking another brick at us in the future. Disabled shelter, then floodlights, stand next maybe? more cover? bigger changing rooms?  who knows.

It would probably be better for you if you and the other Linlithgow fans started following the new Linlithgow Rose in the Juniors, its clear that you hate being a small fish in a big pond and seek any opportunity to denigreate clubs and leagues looking to improve.

That you use the term snowflake says it all about you and your views.
