The Official Airdrieonians Thread - 2019/20 and beyond

Recommended Posts

I don't know Gary personally but I've written to the club as a season ticket holder to ask them to reconsider their decision as the punishment given out for what was in essence an adult carrying out a childish prank for which they have subsequently apologised is way, way over the top.

I emailed the club about changing a hospitality date as I sponsor two players and said about it too. They basically totally ignored what I said about Gary but replied to my hospitality date change.

This is getting out of hand 'surprisingly ',  what do we want the club to do have a look at Policys on the website for example, there is a zero tolerance to offensive gestures (if you get caught) especially with anything around children in the Family section....

it is obviously not linked to the Rico situation, but off the back of that sorry saga processes have had to be tightened,  for people on here blaming PH for this and him having an agenda please explain..

On the Facebook page tonight there is a poll of who thinks GC should be  banned and YES voters being abused on there,  FFS......  I

Think back k to the cove game and the amount of bleating we did about gestures made to children etc  at the end of the title decider last season,  and now we are condoning it....(I am not saying it was deliberate at all, but someone has reported and the club  have had to take action..

If this was a low profile supporter or a wrong un that did this, we would be applauding the club for taking action,  The club cannot pick and choose someone's daftness..

Where is the lifetime ban coming from,  the ban is indefinite and can be retracted at any time by the club.

And for the record I have voted YES on the Facebook poll...

So you are okay with chants about gassing the Jews, nazi salutes etc but you will draw a line over someone sticking the fingers up at a picture.

I also bet you have gestured at the football and took part in abusive shouts/chants.

This worlds gone absolute bonkers if someone’s getting a lifetime ban for sticking up the fingers.

Abso!Utley I have done a lot worse and will continue to do so probably inside and outside the ground,is it right 'no',   you are the same GC is the same we have all done far worse,  On this occasion GC has been unlucky probably a 2 second gesture has  been caught on camera for evermore,  someone reported it, what more can we say.

GC has done more for the club than I or many on here could ever contribute,  but he acted like a fud and got caught, and I know for a fact he will deeply regret his 2 second action...

As stated in my previous post and indefinite ban is at the discretion of the club,  it could be 2 weeks it could be 2 years it is definitely not a stick on life ban...

Then you’re a hypocrite voting he deserved to be banned. Hope you get caught next time you do one of them the next time you’re at a home game.

Think you must be trolling here. A tad hysterical. It was a guy photobombing a picture being taken with a daft but harmless gesture. No molestation of kids took place and I’m sure they will get over the horrific incident (in fact they’ve likely seen and heard much worse since it happened).
Far from applauding, 99% of folk on here - and in life in general - would still be saying it’s a complete overreaction to give a ban regardless of who it was. Whether that’s indefinite or lifelong (they could be one and the same surely?), it’s over the top.
I presume (from your yes vote) you feel the bar has been fairly set and anybody seen gesturing in the vicinity of anyone under 16 should be escorted out and banned. With that approach and the results we’ve been getting, let’s see how many are left at the end of the season.

Absolutely disgusting behaviour and lifetime ban should be giving for this horrible action  by a mature gentleman at a football match. Imagine the sleepless nights those kids have had since this horrendous incident.  I bet the parents even kept them off school for the week frightened to leave the house.

Getting banned for that is a disgrace.

I take the wee man to the games (he’s 12) and we have heard just about every swear word under the sun and seen just about every hand gesture too. Any ism (racism ,sexism etc) we would never tolerate but swearing na never felt the urge to report anyone for that that’s just a poor moral decision to me. The wee man has never had a poor experience due to someone swearing (just the football on the park usually). People pay their money to follow the team who as I’ve said test us more than they will provide good times but we love them and follow them all the same. It’s a hobby, a passion but it’s far more than just a game for most of us it’s an escape from the hardship of life. That’s has been taken away from someone with no proper thought.

I have worked in Cue Here in the past and watched first hand the work that goes in to looking after homes fans and away fans. Was it the brightest thing to do ? of course not . Was it malicious in any way? Absolutely not. I guarantee we will witness far worse on Saturday that go unpunished. I see fans gesture to each other every game when we are in the same stand last Saturday included. Never once have I seen that challenged yet a gesture to a camera (anyone saying it’s a gesture at the kids is at it) is worthy of a ban. Absolute garbage.

Nonsense. Speak for yourself, I don't know anyone who would be applauding this, it is completely disproportionate.

And they are 'picking and choosing', similar gestures in addition to all sorts of verbal abuse are made by hundreds of fans at every game within earshot from where the board sit, yet they don't act on that.

Was there a reason that a man that has done so much for the club felt he needed to do such a daft thing,

This is where you end up if you pander to every hurt feeling and perceived slight.

Let me know when sanity prevails and a more common sense approach is adopted.

Could not count the number of photos on FB with  some with the two finger salute, seems to be used as some kind of stature, Gary maybe thought he could add something to photo, 😕🤣🤣🤣

It's a completely over the top but in line with the ridiculous woke society we now live in but there is not a single fragment of me that is remotely offended by this. It's an utter cringefest from our owner and perhaps football is not for him.

Hetherington is a tadger, I've heard stories about how he shafted former well liked members of stadium staff to get them out of the club. Then he goes and does this to Gary, there have been fans who have hurled abuse at players family members with nothing happening to them.

Careful, the first new account (with 1 post to its name) has already been set up. Someone is watching.

Thanks mate but couldn't care less I hope they see how unhappy the fans are, to be honest it's not like they give a f**k.

It is mental with our fan base having a reputation for horrendous chants/abuse/hooliganism and even the recent one with the fan doing the Nazi salute at Partick, but they decide to get on their high horse over a guy photobombing a photo. Beyond baffling.
