The Official Airdrieonians Thread - 2019/20 and beyond

I definitely wouldn't be turning my nose up at McGill coming back, especially as another cheap/free loan.

He struggled a bit towards the end of the season, playoffs especially, but to have a young guy come in again who knows the club, majority of players (signed so far), style of play, and has already a number of league 1 games under his belt etc, that's already a step ahead.

Put it this way, if it's a choice between Rhys caves or Scott McGill on the bench, I know who I'm going for.

Hearts extended McGill’s contract but there’s no way he’s ready to play for the third best team in the country, so he should be going out on loan, although I think Hearts are going to have a B team in the Lowland League next season which might complicate things. I’d have him back definitely.

Anyone know whats happened with the Quitongo tribunal? Or is it just that the evidence has all been heard and awaiting the decision?

Unusually not heard a thing,  let's be honest here the media and press are only interested in one side of the story,  if it goes in the clubs favour their will be minimal coverage,  if against the club and PH it will be plastered all over social media, written press and probably TV....  Am I being sceptical here....

No.

It was reported for the first 2 days that:

Quitongo was informed of the abuse 2nd hand by ?

The Police confirmed that racist abuse took place but since no charges were made then i suppose the alleged abuser couldn't be identified.

Airdrie/PH suggested to Quitongo that perhaps it didn't happen and wanted to release a joint statement. He seen that £ signs and said no! (i made that bit up)

Quitongo's mental health was affected confirmed by specialist.

Airdrie stated that 2 members of the public claimed Quitongo was involved in drug dealing. That's Rico not Jai, apparently.

Very messy to say the least!

We binned off Fordyce years ago, and McCabe and Frizzell was shite for us. So what’s your point exactly ?

Max Currie is more scared of crosses than Dracula and cost us at key moments throughout the season, the play offs especially.

Rico Quitongo is also shite. That was my point. I would much rather have Bannantyne and Josh Rae than Currie and Quitongo.

Yeah I’m not disagreeing with that. My point was the core of your squad was deemed not good enough for us, but a player can clearly be rated differently by two different fan bases (Paul McKay).

Wait, are you saying you're a fan of Paul McKay? The long throw utility man who helped you stave off relegation? Oh wait....

Your “best team in years” or so is told on here could not get out the Seaside League to a team you finished 21 points ahead. The last time you played championship football you had a different name you clown

With a part of that down to the goalie you have just signed conceding stupid goals in over our play off games.

All counted for nothing in the end unfortunately, as QoS99 pointed out we finished 21 points ahead of the team who ended up getting promoted.

Don’t really see the need for pointless arguments with fans of rival teams. We went unbeaten in our last 20 league games of last season. We finished with a higher points total (or points per game when compared to recent shortened seasons) than the majority of league one champions. In another year we might have won the league, but Cove were even more impressive than us. We lost a playoff final to a team that deserved it over the two legs but certainly didn’t deserve it over the course of the season after finishing 21 points behind us. It was gutting but it’s done now. Of the players that have left us the only one that most of us are bothered about is Easton. From what QOTS fans are saying we’ve got ourselves a superb goalie, who I think we all expect to be an upgrade on Currie. Ballantyne we know to have been the best RB in this league over the last few seasons and seems another great addition. We’ve kept Fordyce, McCabe, Frizzell, Gallagher, Smith et al. Squad’s still very light and more signings are needed but I think we can be quietly confident without lowering ourselves to petty arguments.

Missed pen and pen given away could have been Easton to blame 😜😜😜😜

I was thinking more the equaliser against QP at the home game, shocker of a goal.

couldn't agree more tbh.  If we'd listened to St Mirren and Hamilton fans, we'd never have signed Sir Allan Russell.

A change of manager, fans and scenery is whats required at this level for a lot of players to show something decent.  Frizzell I'd say is another who really failed to make an impact at QOS or Dumbarton, where I think he was always used as a winger.  Ian Murray moved him inside and he was my vote for POTY last season.  People get too carried away man, this is Scottish League 1, the 3rd tier of a national set up, teams and players aren't here "by accident" or "unlucky" to be playing here. The majority are ok, have their qualities and their moments (Currie, made some cracking saves and then failed to control a ball against Peterhead that resulted in one of the bizarrest own goals I'd ever seen.)

I couldn't give a f*ck what Frizzell was like for QOS, season ago, if hes performing well, superb.  I'm sure the QOS boys will also not give a single f*ck what Airdrie say if Rico turns out to be the next coming of Roberto Carlos or even just "does a job" for them.  There will be gems at this level for a season (maybe 2) but on the whole, this is where the players deserve to be.

Aye, all in the game, we missed a few when seemed easier to score, would take something similar this season though,
