Insipid, boring, timid, clueless, spineless defensive rubbish. That’s what Murray is serving up. Doesn’t matter what players he puts in whatever position it is set up not to concede and by default not to score. The midfield is set up with defensive minded midfielders who are too slow in thought and action to move the ball forward and make use of what attacking options we have.

Strikers were working on scraps. The midfield  was "set up" defensively with Miller and McKay and the young lad Reilly whose pen picture says he's a "box to box" midfielder not at the races - so  all Gallagher and Smith were getting were long balls to run after all say - easy for the Raith defence. Thought the manager would have spotted this at half time but ignores the fact that we were piss poor and continues with the same set up - until Raith scored. The tactics/formation went out the window - we hadn't a clue.  At the end Captain playing up front whilst Carrick defends - all over the place.  We really need a creative midfielder who will support the front two by feeding them and running on and into space.  Why Kurtis Roberts isn't getting a run in there is beyond me - as I think he's the closest we have to that type of midfielder at the moment.

The manager has to take full responsibility for the performance and result today.  It was a shocker.

Completely agree. That’s what I was trying to get across in my post. I’d said earlier in the season that Miller & Wedderburn shouldn’t play in the same team as they are both defensive midfielders. He takes Wedderburn out and replaces with McKay, a defender!! Where’s the intent to attack and support the forwards. Of the two wing backs only McDonald was getting forward occasionally. Eckersley remained at the back most of the time. Really frustrating- think we had one attempt on goal each half.

Some of you on here might groan at this but I think it'd be worth considering to bring wedderburn back into the starting 11. Had a howler against East Fife and looked dodgy when he came on against Dumbarton but that midfield needs shook up and he can't be worse than what was on offer today.

Agree he has his limitations,  but has a good range of passing and is a presence,  surely has to start against stranraer.

Apart from Sean n the 2 Callum’s up top (and maybe Millar) the rest of the team didn’t seem up to it, that was Forfyces worst game in an airdrie strip. He seems to play better when Sean isn’t in the team!? Hopefully we put 3/4 goals by Stranraer next week we really need that!

Personally think Fordyce is a better right back than centre half

We've definitely looked more solid with a back 3 in my opinion but those 3, plus two wing backs, and a couple of defensive minded centre mids seems to commit too many men to defence and there's no creativity in the team. Might be worth trying the back 4 again to try and fit guys like Thomson back into the team. On the other hand it might be that there's no right answer because that's how it felt watching that today.

That's exactly what happened last season. I had no issues with it then as it wasn't his players, we were shipping goals and it wasn't impossible that we could have gone down, so he did all he could to make us solid. But we should not be doing that this season. It is his squad and the aim was promotion. Playing with effectively 8 defensive players is never going to get us promotion, particularly when one of the 3 attacking players - our 'creative midfielder' - is by far our weakest position. Wing-backs only work in an attacking sense if you can sustain possession in the final third and give them a chance to get forward, that rarely happens with us so it's effectively a back 5.

The fact we have reverted to the same tactics that we were forced to use last year in desperation is very worrying and doesn't reflect well on his recruitment. If we are going to finish 5th or 6th again, which looks very likely, I'd prefer we got it by having a bit of a go and seeing some goals, not grinding out 1 nil wins and 1 nil losses.

Had a howler at East Fife  looked dodgy when brought on at Dumbarton ,give him a game ,no get rid and bring in someone who can do a job , Raith done the right thing .

We never laid a glove on Raith (managers words ) no no use blaming defence ,midfield,or up front ,subs came on changed nothing ,worrying thing is the units bad  we are not a good team or anything like it ,that game yesterday was like watching a replay of last season or season before ,something has got to change and quick if we are to finish top 4 ,it's a bad day when we are a hybrid unit with as many full time players and are worrying about finishing top 4  in this league .we are just not Airdrie .

Correction this is Airdrie,  and the same Airdrie it has been for a long long time.  Sad but true...

We need one vision.  Raith are focussed on getting out this league,  all there money is going on first team players to try and progress,  Falkirk are the same and that's why they will win the league..    Airdrie a handful of full timers,  part timers  and an array  of fulltime youth players,   we must have a wage bill that could choke a horse,  spunking money on youth is a high risk, low reward ptoject.    The Future is now we all know another 2 or 3 years in this league is not an option.

I don't see how we get out of this league this year.

I wasn't at the game yesterday but it sounds like we have the same old midfield problems that we've had for 2 years (and maybe longer) now. It seems that no amount of recuitment or new managers or coaches can fix it. Baffling.

Totally agree, 5 or 6 youth players on £100 a week add that up and get a decent first team player for that one.

If we could stop playing a midfield made up almost entirely of defensive midfielders that would be great thnx. It's League 1 FFS we are going to be playing some variety of rubbish every week so there's absolutely no need to be set up in fear of losing. Play one of Millar, McKay or Wedderburn, put Roberts or Hawkshaw in there to actually get a bit of distribution and link defence to attack and play Thomson (who despite having a flaky final ball is a threat at this level just by running at defenders) and McCann/O'Reilly (if or when he's fit again) out wide. It shouldn't be so difficult.

That will be good to play O’reilly when he ain’t on loan anymore he was sent back due to injury

Hasn't been confirmed anywhere by us or St Johnstone he's been sent back but knew he was out injured (as referred to above). Point still stands though - we're making it unnecessarily difficult for ourselves by setting up so defensively when there's absolutely no need to.

You would think that we do not need to play so defensive in this league ,but reality is our players are of this low standard at best ,as they are showing every week ,aye we beat Dumbarton very lucky ,the Irish team aswell it was their second team .every game except in the second half of the Clyde game as someone else pointed out we have struggled ,It is the managers team now ,we expect better ,
