Most people just sing and play the guitar.

Lesmahagow is one of those places in Scotland that sounds dead far away from where you live but then you are surprised at how quickly you can get there.
Thats all I've got to add.
That may be, however surely once you are there the question is, how quickly can I get out this hole.

Is it pronounced 'go', 'gow' or 'gie'?

Lesmahaygay, by the locals (but not the ones in the nicer houses).

The OP needs to come back in and tell us what he's looking for. As has been said before, it's a commuter town with a big Tesco. If that's your thing then wire in. They're ten a penny in the central belt.

Strange wee place. I’d been down there for a game once, and had 45 minutes to kill before the bus back to civilisation in Hamilton. Went into the Black Bull boozer in the main street, and my entrance was greeted like that of those two Americans walking into the Slaughtered Lamb in American Werewolf in London - if there had been a pool table the balls would have stopped rolling.

Got a pint up anyway, and eventually a wee Captain Mainwaring lookalike local detached himself from the other end of the bar, sidled up to me and uttered the immortal question:

“Just passing through?”

I get the impression it’s one of those places you could live in for 20 years and still be the new guy.
