EH75
I presume there is some sort of insurance that will cover the fee no? Thought they might've waited until the authorities finish recovering his corpse from the seabed before demanding payment.

I agree though youd think Cardiff would have done the decent thing and paid up without waiting to be asked too

Cardiff City have personal accident insurance for all their players. Worth £16m apparently. However, it's been reported that Cardiff could still end up £14m out of pocket because Sala's contract was worth £30m.
DG.Roma
Cardiff should pay up and Nantes should donate the money to some sort of coastguard / lifeboat / search & rescue charity
Savage Henry
Cardiff should pay up and Nantes should donate the money to some sort of coastguard / lifeboat / search & rescue charity Why?Cardiff should pay up and Nantes should keep the money and spend it on another player, no?
DG.Roma
Well aye, technically the deal was done and the funds should be there for Nantes to do what they want with. Just thinking of how it would feel, which is a load of bollocks I know. Imagine being the guy who was bought with the Sala money, or was Sala's replacement, which is apparently why Cardiff couldn't get another striker in, according to Warnock.

DG.Roma
Alright then, give some to the families, some to charities, and some towards a new striker. Whatever happens, Cardiff shouldn't be able to keep their money, excluding any insurance arrangement of course

Whatever happens, Cardiff shouldn't be able to keep their money, excluding any insurance arrangement of course It's likely that Sala's family will benefit from his life insurance policy. Agents and advisers usually sort that out for their clients. Cardiff City will have to pay up and claim on the club's insurance policy. We know that Sala was covered. The plane crash should be covered like a car crash or any other major accident unless the policy specified otherwise. Another possible problem is that Sala's agent booked the plane and so he may not have been covered by Cardiff's policy. Cardiff's insurer would seek to recoup its money from the plane company and its insurer. The big question is whether the pilot's company had sufficient cover but that's not the club's problem. In any case, Nantes will get the money that its owed and pay Bordeaux its share. Edited February 6, 2019 by Bishop Briggs

One was searching at sea level, the other specifically used sonar, that the coastguard don't have, to search the seabed. Infuriates me how many folk are genuinely claiming the coastguard did "f**k all and just gave up" on Twitter over the past week, as if they had a million pound sonar ship stored away somewhere and refused to use it. The searched for life until it was clear it wasn't there.
