Bo'ness history - Day by day

Indeed Dave.  We used an astonishing 33 players that season.  This year, we have used 18 so far.

Even that’s surprising, seems like we’ve only had 11!

1949 and I never tire of the headline from the Journal "Linlithgow trounced in seven goal rout.  This was the first visit by the Rose to Newtown Park and the BU's completed the League double early in the season.  Laurie Higgins & Jimmy Walsh put the BU's 2 up at the break.  Jimmy Sproull got a third just after the hour before Lannin weighed in with a double, his only goals for the club.  Sproull added a penalty before Willie Morrison made it 7-0 with a "Gordon Smith effort" 5 mins from time.

The team was: Graham, Mitchell, Keenan, Jamieson, Dick, Rodgers, Morrison, Sproull, Lannin, Walsh, Higgins

Here's an annoying wee teaser for you.  On this day, the BU's have played 4 matches in the Junior Cup, 3 wins and a draw.  Can you name the opponents?

Two clues  1)  All clubs still alive  2)  Three of the four now in the EOS.

To 1948 and a visit to Whitburn in the 2nd round of the Junior Cup.  The game looked over at half-time as the BU's led 3-1, through goals by Jimmy Masterton, Willie Gardiner & Jimmy Sproull.  Several chances were wasted after the break and this allowed the 'burn to get back into the game and they equalised with ten minutes to go.  The home fans were still celebrating when Masterton scrambled home the winner, 4-3 to the BU's!

The team was: Graham, Mitchell, Keenan, Walls, Thomson, Riley, Black, Masterton, Gardner, Sproull, Balderston

It also saw Dougie pull off the worst miss I ever saw. A ball two feet from an empty net where Dougie instead of tapping it in accidentally stood on the ball, fell over and managed to deflect it off himself around the post. Couldn't have managed it if he tried.

Ah yes, I remember that.  Was it not near the end, as I seem to recall being beside the goal on my way to the gate.

1957 and a Junior Cup first round tie at home to the side from the quaintly named Bore Park, Glencraig Colliery.  The match, whilst not a bore was not an even contest, as the BU's triumphed 6-0.  Former Stirling Albion player, Gordon Davidson hit four that day, with Bobby McGill and Bobby Baxter netting the others.

The team was: Thomson, Russell, Gavin, Collumbine, McGregor, Hood, Jack, Millar, Davidson, McGill, Baxter
