After a hard-fought game the BU's triumphed 3-2. The goals were scored by Joe Donlevy, Sam Batchelor & Jimmy Blevins. The setting was a Junior Cup 3rd Round replay at home to Blantyre Victoria. The match itself finished 2-2 after goals by Ross Campbell & Fraser Keast. It was then that the farce started. The referee, despite being urged otherwise to go straight to penalties, as per the rules, decided to play extra-time. After the first 15 mins and darkness descending, he then chose to go to penalties. The BU's lost 4-3 but most fans expected the result to be nullified due to the error made by the ref. An appeal was made but amazingly dismissed. That game was the beginning of the end with the Juniors without a doubt. An interesting game on a heavy pitch came to life 3 mins into the 2nd half when George O'Boyle converted a Dolan cross from close-in. The BU's only held the lead for 7 mins however. 1-1 the final score. Perhaps surprisingly, the BU's strolled to a 4-1 win. He went on to complete his hat-trick, making it 11 in 8 games for the centre forward. The trialist scored in the 32nd minute, then 6 mins later at 3.55pm the ref abandoned the game due to failing light 4-0 Subsequently, the League awarded the points to the BU's. The surprising star was young John Bell, who netted a hat-trick, his first goals for the club. Bobby Nisbet and Ian Wodecki got the others. The first game was 4-4, this went one better and finished 5-5! The game was decided by penalties and the Rose triumphed 4-3. The BU scorers were Tommy Caldwell, Lex Shields, Lindsay Hamilton and Jim Sinnet, who scored two including a penalty. The BU's had struggled against Arbroath Vics in the previous round and did so again, only managing a goalless draw. There was no hint the club would reach the Final that season.
