Despite going a goal behind, against the run of play, the BU's ran out emphatic 6-1 winners, scoring five goals in the 2nd half. Ross Hamilton had equalised in the 1st half before Paul Shields & Fraser Forrest hit two early goals after the break. Andy Shirra hit a brace and even sub Martin Ure had time to score. Goalless until sub Stuart Park entered the fray, he went on to bag a hat-trick. Ian Miller was his reliable self from the penalty spot and Tom Breen completed the scorers as the BU's trounced the Rose 5-0. After going behind in the first minute, Kevin Mullen & Ross Muir fired the BU's ahead at the break. 2-2 at Full Time and it moved to penalties. Somehow, the BU's came back from 2 down to win, with Greg Logan the star with two saves. A close fought match saw the BU's triumph 3-2, with goals from Tom Caldwell and a Robert Beaton double. Jambo'ness Posted September 29, 2019 Author Share Posted September 29, 2019 Sept 29th 1951 and Linlithgow Rose came to town to try and get through to the next round of the East of Scotland Cup. The match was marred by injuries. The Rose took an early lead and held on to half-time despite being down to 9 men, Liddell then went off for the BU's and the ten turned the game around. The BU's hosted top of the League Linlithgow Rose, without a point or a manager to their name. The BU's tore up the form book for this derby match, winning 4-1. Paul Mortimer netted the first on the half hour. 10 mins later Gary Brown had made it two with a low shot. Just after the hour Stuart McKay got the first of a double. Ex-BU Gordon Herd netting in between. It was no surprise that the BU's managed a 4-0 win in this Scottish Cup match The biggest surprise was that the two goals in the first 20 minutes both came from Scott Gibb! Nicky Walker scored a third on the half hour and the tie was effectively over. The BU's sat back a little in the 2nd half and added only one more through Stephen Tarditi. I wish I had the match report to see how the goals went but the BU goals came from a double by Dave McOwat, one each from Jimmy Tierney & Willie Brown and a brace of penalties from Lennie Frew. The BU's were fortunate to have a sub goalie on the bench as Steve Anderson suffered an injury during the game. Just 3 years previously, the BU's had come along & scored 10 without reply. This time it was 12 but at least the Vics got a consolation goal. Iain Stewart stole the honours with a nap-hand of goals and 'Sheep' McKinlay bagged a hat-trick. Colin Inglis had opened the scoring and goals from John Sludden, Eddie Hallford & Kevin Hoggan completed the rout. Willie Wilson netted in a tight first half but John Currie banged in 4 in the 2nd half to complete an emphatic 5-0 win against Newtongrange Star. Their visit in 1953 had seen us score 9, this time it was 8-0. Ian Miller got himself a hat-trick and big George Squair grabbed a brace. The locals were in good form, so the BU's 5-1 was a trifle unexpected. Star of the show was Angus Collins who not only managed his first goal for the club but secured a hat-trick too! Jim Glennon and a John Hall penalty completed the scoring.
