1948 saw a visit to Olive Bank, home of Musselburgh Athletic and the BU's came away with what still stands as their biggest win over the 'burgh by 6-1 . Hat-tricks were scored by Bobby Balderston and new signing from Camelon, J Thomson, normally a centre-half but playing up top for the day.

The team was: Graham, Mitchell, Keenan, Walls, Stewart, McLean, Strathie, Jamieson, Thomson, Pow, Balderston

Pride of place today is back to 1979, when the Benefit match for Ian McQueen was held.  The opponents were St Mirren and the scoreline finished 1-1, Lex Shields notching the BU's goal.

At that point Ian had played just over 300 games for us and was to play over a 100 more before he retired in 1985

1950 now and new club Alva Albion Rangers started the season at Newtown and were Swamped 9-0 by the BU's.  As the score stood at 7 at half-time , the Journal commented that a book-keeper was required rather than a reporter!  Willie Gardiner weighed in with 5 goals that day, John Steedman hit a double with Robert Balderston & Willie Dunlop completing the scoring.

The team was: Trialist, Mitchell, McKeeman, Hogg, Thomson, McKie, Dunlop, Coyle, Gardiner, Steedman, Balderston

1957 saw a trip over the flints on League business and the BU's returned home with a 4-2 win under their belts.  Summer recruits from Armadale played a major part, with Tommy Millar scoring a brace and Archie Jack nabbing one.  Reinstatement from Stirling Albion, Gordon Davidson got the other.

The team was: Thomson, Wilkie, Hall, Collumbine, McGregor, Hood, Jack, Millar, Davidson, Dair, Baxter

Seeing as it's match day, here's a teaser to get your teeth into.  Back in 2009 we played a young side from Alloa Athletic and registered a 3-1 win a Newtown.  No fewer than 6 (SIX) of the Alloa players went on to play for the BU's at some point.  Can you name them?

Now that is a fecking tester. JS will be well into his research by now though.

The likes of Danny Main and Jamie Hay played with Alloa... Brian Carrigan? No recollection of playing them though!

Whilst the first two did, it wasn't in this game.  Carrots is a correct answer though.  Four to go.

Wee clue.  One mentioned earlier this week.

First question from everyone today on the bus was 'Who was the last BU player to score a hat-trick of penalties?'  The simple answer is today is a first!  Well done Morgy!

In 1969 'Duke' Rae scored two of his four goals from the spot in an 8-0 win over Kelty Rangers and another six have scored two as part of a hat-trick.  Most recently Colin Strickland in a 6-1 win over Fauldhouse in 2017.

Former Bo'ness player Donald Ford did score a hat-trick of penalties away to Morton in 1973.
