Jambo'ness
First day of a new season and couldn't wait to get back to this! Unfortunately, I can find no games previously on the 13th. The best I can do are Friendlies on the 11th and 12th. 1964 saw the BU's make their earliest ever start (going by recorded matches). Dunipace were the visitors on the 11th of July 1964. A trialist scored two along with a Sandy Myles penalty in a 3-2 win. The 12th of July 2017 saw the Hamilton Accies u-20's visit and they were seen off 2-0 with goals from a trialist and Hassan Nyang If anyone knows of a game on the 13th please let me know.
Jambo'ness
One game found for the 16th, fairly recent, in 2011. The venue was the Muirhouse Sports Grounds and the opponents were Civil Service Strollers. This was Paul Ronald's first game in charge. The match was a 1-1 draw with new signing John Stewart scoring the opener just after half time.
Jambo'ness
For the 17th we go to 2010 and hardly an auspicious start for the Champions. An away friendly at Beith resulted in a 4-1 defeat. Derek Fleming scored our counter with a penalty.
Jambo'ness
As we all know, pre-season friendly results are no real indicator of how your club is going to do. This was never better illustrated than in 2009, when on the 18th, the future champions played Ashfield in the first day of the Dunipace 4TT. The BU's lost 2-5, with Scott Brown and an own goal being our counters. In 2016, we met Linlithgow Thistle at Newtown and won 4-0 against energetic opponents. Goals came from Ru McLennan, Nicky Walker, Fraser Eddington and a Colin Strickland penalty.
Jambo'ness
Those who say I never include defeats are getting their fill now For the 19th, I'll go back to that 4TT at Dunipace 1n 2009. We played Fauldhouse United in our 2nd game and lost 4-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw. Our goal was an own goal. Funnily enough, tey were our top scorers at that stage, on two! More recently, we entertained Clydebabank and went down 2-1, Ross Philp scoring.
Jambo'ness
The 20th has thrown up 3 matches from the past. In 2004, Albion Rovers were the visitors and the BU's were reported as having the better of the match in a 0-0 draw. Not so good in 2010 as we hosted Airdrie, who fielded a strong side. Down 2-0 at the break, Paul Shields gave hop of a recovery but two goals in the last quarter gave the visitors a slightly flattering 4-1 win. 2013 saw the Douglas Snedden Memorial Trophy being contested against local amateur side Bo'ness Cadora. Played in very hot weather, the amateurs more than held their own in the first half as it finished goalless. In fact it was nearly 70 minutes before the BU's broke down Cadora, with Chris Donnelly being put through to beat Cadora 'keeper Steven Lapsley. Within 10 minutes, Darren Gribben had added two more goals, one a penalty and the match finished 3-0 to the BU's. At the end, the trophy was presented to Chris Donnelly by Mrs Alison Snedden.
Jambo'ness
Wee catch-up to include 21st and the visitors in 2014 were EOS senior club Lothian Thistle, A close encounter ended 3-2 to the BU's, with goals coming from Willie McLaren, Chris Donnelly and an own goal. On the 22nd, in 2004, the BU's came out on tops 1-0 against Airdrie, in a physical encounter. The latter statement probably explained by the introduction for the visitors at half time of a certain Michael Gemmell! Martin Mooney scored the winning goal. John S
A good snippet there Wee catch-up to include 21st and the visitors in 2014 were EOS senior club Lothian Thistle, A close encounter ended 3-2 to the BU's, with goals coming from Willie McLaren, Chris Donnelly and an own goal. Jambo'ness
The player Michael replaced went by the name of Willie Wilson. Was that the old Bathgate player and coach with us for a short time?
Jambo'ness
We complain about poor summer weather but at least it hasn't plumbed the depths of this day in 2013. Hamilton Accies were the visitors and this could really be described as two 45 minute games as both sides changed almost to a man at half time. The first half started in heavy rain and belonged to the Accies and Ali Crawford was the creator of their goal. Second half saw the BU's score 2 goals in 3 minutes midway through the half and they held on comfortably to win 2-1 in absolute monsoon conditions at the end.
Jambo'ness
Today we can go quite a bit further back, to 1962. when we faced up to a juvenile side Royal Edina. An early start for sure in those days but the BU's had played their last competitive match on 28th April, a three month break! This particular game was won 3 - 1 with a brace from new signing, from Lochgelly, Martin Halliday and one from a trialist named Houston.
Jambo'ness
Only going back as far as 2015 today. Then Premier League side Dundonald Bluebell were the visitors for a friendly but what makes the match interesting are the scorers. The BU's came out on top 4-2, not knowing they would meet the same club in the East of Scotland Cup Final at the season's end. Back to the scorers. Darren Cumming, the only man home-sick for Sauchie, grabbed a double. Our new former Falkirk star Pedro Moutinho nabbed one and finally, the real collectors item, Darren Downie scored his only goal for the BU's!

Darren Downie, not given a chance at Newtown, scored more EOS goals for Blackburn than any BU player scored last season, and now with Musselburgh, watch he doesn’t come back to haunt us

Jambo'ness
He was a very raw talent when AMcG signed him up but like most of the youngsters at that time he wasn't given the chance to develop in the team.
Jambo'ness
July 26th A really special occasion to start the new season. The year was 1997 and a special match was arranged to contest the Fair Centenary Quaich. Old Cup Final opponents Darvel Jnrs were invited to be the opposition but the game proved to be a mismatch with the BU's running amok to the tune of 9-0. Hat-tricks were scored by Paul McKinlay and Steve Bryce, with singles notched by Jimmy Burns, David Cullie & John Sludden.
Jambo'ness
Gentle teaser to start the season. Back in 2011 we beat Lothian Thistle 4-2 in a friendly. Who netted all 4 goals for us?
