1947 and at the 3rd time of asking, Renfrew were finally defeated 4-2.  The headline in the Sunday Post read "Picture goal was 'Final' passport", referring to the 3rd goal  at the end of a brilliant move.  The scorers were John McGowan, Jim McLean & a double from Willie Dickson.  The attendance at Hampden was 54,414, meaning over 112,000 had seen the 3 games!

The team was: Stanners, W. Mitchell, Brash, Paton, Stewart, McKie, McGowan, Dickson, McLean, Pryde, Mills

Two days late but here is the programme for the match.

Forward in time to 1994 and a Brown Cup semi-final away to Ormiston Primrose.  No great difficulties, surprisingly, as the BU's won 4-0 with undoubted star of the show being hat-trick hero Paul McLaren.  Gary Wilcox getting the other goal.

The team was: Kirkwood, Hoggan, Meldrum, Dunleavie, Malloy, Cheape, Dalton, Wilcox, Gallagher, Burns, McLaren

Instead of a teaser, here's a plea for info.  On this day in 1969, the BU's travelled to Prestonfield for an R L Rae Cup 3rd round replay.  Definitely played on that date but not reported on by the Journal, presumably because Bo'ness won.  Can anybody supply match details?

May 22nd

The first huge day in the club's history as the Junior Cup is brought home to Newtown for the first time. The opponents that day at Hampden were Irvine Meadow and in front of a crowd of 55,602, the BU's triumphed 2-1.  Paddy Buckley opened the scoring on the hour and although Fullerton equalised on 79 minutes the BU's kept their nerve and clinched the Cup on 86 minutes through Willie Wilson, with a goal described by the Sunday Post as "a finish in a million".

The team was: Graham, Mitchell, Keenan, Walls, Stewart, McKie, Wilson, Pinkerton, Buckley, Sproull, Black

Ah well, yesterday's plea came up with o answers and so it remains a match shrouded in mystery.

Today, back to a teaser and in 2004 we played a Brown Cup semi-final against Whitburn.  Who netted a hat-trick for us that day?

2015 and it's the final League game of the season and a chance not to be missed of inflicting a 3rd defeat of the season on Linlithgow.  Despite going behind in the 1st half, Nicky Walker equalised on 66 minutes and became the toast of Newtown when he worked a neat 1-2 with Chris Donnelly to net the winner.

The team was: Baillie, Cowan (Robb), Devine, Murphy, Leiper, Nimmo (Alexander), Walker, Philp, Anderson (Gibb), Donnelly, Sloan
