I wonder if Jamboness is being sneaky on this one as I think we finished the game with 11 men. Is it a BU player who used to play for Mussy ?

No, no sneakiness, it was Hunter but 8mile got there first.  I was just not on net last night.

1956 now and the 2nd leg of the then annual Laurie Cup, against Linlithgow Rose.  The Rose were confident after winning the first leg 4-3 but they were blown away 4-0 at Newtown.  Jackie Kiernan, Gibby Ormond & Jimmy Boyd scored as the BU's cruised in at half time three goals up.  Jimmy Boyd added one in the second half to wrap up the Cup.

The team was: Wren, Taggart, Hall, Collumbine, McBlain, Higney, Glennon, Kiernan, Boyd, Hunter, Ormond

Hunter sent off?

Was this not the game that made the press where a man on Musselburgh’s bench that allegedly nobody knew who he was assaulted our then assistant manager?

No that game was at Newtown where the guy had a go at Will before he and Wilcox were involved in a fracas. Has that ever been resolved.

Back a couple of days and I have to apologise for the release of 'fake news'.  It was not our own Stuart Hunter that was given a red card, difficult as he wasn't playing but Michael Hunter of Musselburgh for two yellows.

I deeply regret the heartache and misery this has caused amongst some fans and hope that Stuart recovers soon.

1963 and it's Whitburn again, this time at Newtown  in a League clash.  Both sides were to finish mid-table and the BU's played 3 trialists up front.  Nobody could have foresaw the 8-1 win that would be achieved. One of the trialists, Jim Thomson, from Royston Juvs notched a hat-trick. George Johnstone scored 2 including a penalty and Dick Sneddon hit a double too, Joe Young hitting the other.

The team was: Allan, Cram, McCallum, Mitchell, Scott, Johnstone, Thomson, Newman, Sneddon, Young, Newman

A nice vague teaser for you all.  What outside event affected the match played on this day in 2015?

Remember it well.

This was the only day @Auld Heid posted something interesting, and @Specky first managed to spell a word with more than 5 letters correctly, albeit on the Bo’ness thread.

Such was the magnitude of the posts, players were late for games all over the country having stopped to read the aforementioned posts, read them again they were so good, then text all their mates to say ‘Have you seen Auld Heid and Specky’s posts??’

Not buying the first part, still hasn't happened for Specky.  Auld heid can manage the word Follow as long as it's repeated.

It was  a Kelty match but it was the team held up on bridge.  The supporters bus breakdown happened before that, I'm sure.

Cup Final time in 1955 and it's the St Michael's Cup (League Cup) against Bathgate Thistle, held at Easter Road.  The BU's retained the trophy with a 4-1 win.  Three Jims shared the goals.  Boyd with a double, Carruthers & Harrower.  The crowd was reported as fair-sized considering the wet weather conditions.

The team was: Ronald, Mitchell, Donnelly, Hogg, McBlain, Meiklejohn, Boyd, Jarvie, Thomson, Carruthers, Harrower
