Don't want to tempt fate but today we go back to 1948 and a trip to play Bonnyrigg Rose.  The BU's managed a 5-3 win with this team:  Graham, Mitchell, Keenan, Walls, Trialist, McKie, Black, Pinkerton, Buckley, Trialist, Cannon.

The goals came from a double from Paddy Buckley, one from Charlie Cannon and two from the trialist number 10, Birrell, from Bayview YC.  If anyone knows his first name, please let me know.

There was a player called Douglas ( Dougie) Birrell played with the BU,s. Not sure if it was the same player.

A teaser. Junior McCluskey turns up in a significant game a few years later?

You should start an equivalent thread for your mob. Try finding some pre 1896 results to put in it as well. [emoji38]
Just pick up the booklet published in 1989 for our centenary.

Informative read - wouldn't appeal to you as not that many pictures....!!

We also had a 'Junior' McCluskey in goals back in 1950.  Would I be right in assuming it was father and son?

1957 saw the BU's travel to Bonnybridge and return the victors by 3-0  The team was: Thomson, Collumbine, Gavin, McBlain, Garth, Adam, Taggart, Hunter, Glennon, Calder, Shaw.  Goals came from  James Glennon, Patrick Taggart & John Hunter.

Future full Scotland international Harry Thomson made his debut as a trialist from Broughton Star.

Harry Thomson went to Burnley - where he was known as ‘God in a Green jersey ‘and played for around 10 seasons . Later moved to Blackpool and finished his career at Barrow.  Sadly passed away in 2013 aged 73.

Don't think Thomson was ever capped for Scotland.
