Paisley Buddies v Dandy Dons

Recommended Posts

That’s alright because poor wee Lewis threw a punch at him for his booking. You were the better team and deserved to win but your players played the ref like a fiddle. Minimum contact and your lads went down like the titanic. Not a criticism as teams in this league are far more streetwise than us but don’t confuse this with us being a dirty team.........we are soft.......but just obvious when we foul.

Tbf the Ref gave us a lot today which is a first. Thought one of your guys was lucky to stay on the park. Did he not hit someone on the ground ?

Our central defence is a worry. St Mirren were unlucky a couple of times in first half. So close to getting through a couple of times at 0-0.

Thought Cosgrove was excellent today.

And well done to the referee for giving him a fair crack of the whip and not taking the easy way out by blowing for a foul against him every time the ball was in the air.

Steven McLean take note, you fud.

Pretty embarrassing from the home team today... Had no interest in playing football and just kicking everyone in red.

From what I can gather Cosgrove is usually ineffectual.

His kind of player needs a ref to at the very least give him the benefit of the doubt, today though I’ve never seen a big target man get the benefit of the doubt as much from a ref.

Yeah, he was very good at making the most of any contact, but normally refs give the benefit of the doubt to the defender.

Today that didn’t happen.

If you’re the size he is, and have a ref that lets you use it, you’ll have a big impact on the game. And he did.

As to Saints ‘kicking the opposition all over the park’, we are quite the opposite.

We seem terrified to put in a hard tackle.

Shinnie today put in 3 or 4 tackles where he took ball and man, mainly ball first, but any one of those was harder than what we seem capable of.

We absolutely need to get more streetwise. Feel a touch, fall down. Think you can take the ball, take it - but also put a bit of fear in to your opponent about what the next tackle might do.

We were not miles behind Aberdeen at football today, but yet again we lost, and part of that is that we are too soft and naive.

There was one when Jackson got through one on one with the keeper and looked as if he’d tuned his run perfectly.

Flag went up but will be interesting to see it again.

Having said that, Saints have gone ahead in three of our last 5 games and not won any!

Some promising signs today. MacPherson and Erhahon did well. Breadner showed some promise when he came on.

Over the piece I didn't think we played all that badly, but we didn't deserve anything from the game. Again we lost goals from set pieces. It's pretty much a weekly occurrence. We also didn't create anything other that the goal.

Is there some sort of deal with Edwards that we only pay his wages if he doesn't play? Otherwise I fail to see how he gets a game. It's possibly unfair to single him out.

Naw, you're not being unfair.

Aye that’s the one.

I didn’t think he was off to be honest from where I was sitting.

Two good examples were Cammy McPherson (who was excellent) in the corner, feels a push in the back and stays on his feet and ends up putting the ball out for a goal kick, in contrast when Aberdeen players got contact they went down and made the ref make a decision.

We are just so naive at this level.

The team is screaming out for another striker and some seasoned pros with a bit of dig.

Great three points today, in difficult conditions for everyone. Nice to be up to fourth, but we need to keep up this winning lark at Pittodrie on Tuesday, and then on to Hearts on Saturday. The last time we played a team that had just been hammered was Motherwell, so we need to take care.

Back Home. Thawing out.

Forget what a doddle it is getting through to St Mirren. Hope you stay up.

Well done to the 22+ players to make a game out of that, particularly in 2nd half.

And Thanks to the Bankhouse for your hospitality pre-match [emoji106][emoji106]
You're more than welcome anytime. Where were you?

Yesterday was dreadful in terms of frustration. I see the word 'naive' being used in this thread a lot and that is exactly what we are.

So many wee pushes, pulls of the shirt, nudges that happen on a weekly basis and yet our players just get on with it. This isn't a sleight at Aberdeen as every team does it, ours included. The difference is that when we do it, we get caught more often than not because opposition players will go to ground and let the ref make a decision.

We need to wise up in that regard. Yesterday, we lost from two set pieces where the decisions were made because we allowed Aberdeen to make those claims. The penalty in particular was enraging. Most folk around me were giving the ref dogs abuse but it looked the correct decision to me. One of the few things the ref got right.

On the football side of things (and I use the term loosely) if Ryan Edwards isn't the first loan terminated in January, I will riot.
