John Haynes, the Haynes responsible for those Haynes motor manuals, has ended up on the scrapheap.

He spluttered and conked out. Surprised that there weren't more puns on this one tbh.

I remember using his car manuals in the 70s and 80s to fix various things. My classic car enthusiast friends swore by them. They drove Triumphs TR6s and MGs.

Should have got a decent gong for services to the motor industry IMO. RIP.

Paul Flynn, MP for Newport West since 87, dead aged 84.

A well-liked and respected politician, unusual these days. RIP.

He had a strong personal vote and Labour, if a Corbyn crony is selected, could lose the by-election.

Week 7 Update

Two deaths this week. First up was Gordon Banks, an English League Cup winner with Leicester and Stoke in 1964 and 1972 respectively. He made a save in the 1970 World Cup, and achieved nothing else of note for his country. Obituary: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/47196017
In all seriousness, pretty much every reaction to his death has reinforced that he was a good guy. He was picked three times by Musketeer Gripweed, The DA and Ziggy, for 44 base points.
As seen a few posts up, 50/50 Winner picked Ken Nordine, described on his Wikipedia page as "you may not know Ken Nordine by name or face, but you'll almost certainly recognize his voice." I've had a listen, and he's lost on me. Maybe it's because I'm not from Chicago like he is though, because there's as yet no qualifying obituary for him.
The effect on the scores is this:
1. sparky88 328
2. alta-pete 297
3. Oooooft 277
4. Ned Nederlander 262
5. DBA 236
6. chomp my root 221
7. Bishop Briggs 207
8. cdisaaccie, Lex, peasy23, The Naitch 140
9. Musketeer Gripweed 106
10. gingette, Once a Rover always a Rover 105
11. Ben Twilly 93

12. LoonsYouthTeam 78
13. Indale Winton, lichtgilphead, qos_75 70
14. Sweaty Morph 62
15. The DA, Ziggy 44
16. Everyone else 0
Ed - knew I forgot something, the spreadsheet has been updated: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1NlaNlT-7ZGlQGqszGFfBb49tVzFpWITUAR7BUjApJUc/edit?usp=sharing
If there are 4 people tied for 8th, shouldn't the next person be listed as 12th?

Marcia Williams, Lady Forkbender (as Private Eye) called her. She was Harold Wilson's secretary and was thought to have had a lot of influence over him. Compiled the "Lavender List" of Honours when Wilson resigned in 1976 which was a bit of a scandal at the time. Looking at half the crooks and spivs on the last New Year's Honours list you have to wonder what all the fuss was about...

I've just been reading about her in Sandbrook's Seasons in the Sun.  She sounded a bit unhinged.  As, indeed, did Wilson himself - he thought there were spies under every bed and behind every mirror in Downing Street.

Happy days.

George Mendonsa.

Sailor in famous kissing photo aged 95.

Or not.

Still another claimant to being the sailor (there was a few) alive.

In other news, Johnnie Valentine dead at 88.

Was a centre half for the Bearz in the 7-1 demolition derby of a LC Final in 57. Sold shortly after :)

Popularised Harry Belafonte in Scotland so I believe.
