Never understood why they taped it up then told him not to use it. If he's not going to use it why bother taking 10 seconds in a pit stop to tape it up? Yuki asking "what is this?" is hilarious.

We’re they not instructed to come in and repair?  I guess if you’ve been told that you gota do something. 

When the damage appeared under DRS I did wonder if an order to not use DRS would have satisfied the FIA that the car was safe.

Wasn't enough imo. 

A bit of tape across a bit of fractured carbon fibre travelling at 200mph is out of order. 

Real potential to hurt someone following, can't help but think this isnt the last we hear of this.

Bit strange on the radio this morning when they gave the result during the sport "Max Verstappen won, teammate Perez was second and the UK'S Lewis Hamilton was fourth....."

Lots of heavy weather in the news about Hamilton's back. Apparently the technical rules need rewritten for all cars to fix this issue (at least, that is what Mercedes is saying). Other teams have got around this within the technical rules and, of course, they could just raise the ride height. But no - Toto doesn't like the new rules and wants them changed.

Toto will just have to accept that this year's Merc is shite and having to slam the ride height to be competitive is their problem and no one else's. Any change needs 8 out of the 10 teams in favour which is highly unlikely. 

Oscar nomination worthy stuff from Hamilton after the race yesterday though

Russell has acted as a supplicant to Team Hamilton ever since his embarrassing mewling about Abu Dhabi so it's no surprise that he gets treated as an irrelevance.

Funny how the safety issue only emerged after Mercedes rolled out their 'game-changing' car upgrades for the European leg and found themselves still being trolled by a pair of Alpines.

Unusually competent from Red Bull when they have 2 fairly competitive cars and unusually dull for Baku where the only interesting thing was Ferrari powered cars breaking down like old Ladas. That Mercedes is a complete dog on the straights anyway and the porpoising made it look awful. 

Mercedes wanting the ride height changed is so brazen, they could run higher now for safety but know cause Alpine and Red Bull can run lower they'd be slower. Surely a way to solve it a limit on bouncing measured and checked by FIA. I suspect all these forces are measured in telemetry and you can impose a limit on acceptable bouncing.

Asked if he thought that was what Mercedes were doing, Horner added: "Of course it is. I mean, look, you can see it's uncomfortable - but there are remedies to that. But it's to the detriment of the car performance.

"The easiest thing to do is to complain from a safety point of view - but each team has a choice.

"I think if it was a genuine safety concern across the whole grid, then it's something that should be looked at. But if it's only affecting isolated people or teams, that's something that that team should potentially deal with."

I see the latest chat is that with South Africa and China possibly being added to the schedule that Spa and Paul Ricard are the most likely to be dropped. Why can't they drop horrible tracks like Hungary and Barcelona? Even Austria isn't great. Spa is iconic. Too much pandering to American mentality now.

Hungary is not a horrible track and has been very successful for decades in getting fans through the gate.
