Maud 5 - 2 Nairn St Ninian

North Superleague

13th April 2019

Maud: Fyfe, Whyte, Crisp, Thornton, Clark, R Thomson, G Thomson, Conway, Ritchie, Mackie, Chicken,

Subs: Lawson, Walker, Robertson

Maud welcomed Nairn St Nairn in another vital league match played in a glorious sunny afternoon. Nairn started well earning 2 corners in quick succession, but the Maud back line stood firm. Nairn looked like they were about to score until a fantastic piece of defending by Thornton. On 18 mins the away pressure finally told when the Nairn striker MacLeod fired home via a deflection past Fyfe. Maud came into the game more now and were soon on level terms when a ball from Chicken into the path of Conway whose right foot curling shot into the top corner of the net leaving the away keeper helpless. A Conway header was met by Crisp who couldn't keeper his header on target. 35 mins and a Conway corner curled straight in to the top corner of the net. A clearance by Crisp was player long out on the right which Conway ran onto and past the defender and smashing the ball in for his hatrick.

HT 3–1

Clark tried a shot from distance but was straight at the visiting keeper. Fyfe did well to punch clear a cross while under pressure. A corner was swung across and after it was half cleared it fell to Mason who had a simple tap in to reduce the lead to one. Maud replied with a fourth goal after a good through ball by Ritchie to Conway who made no mistake with his finish. Conway set up R Thomson who dragged his shot wide. Great work again by Chicken on the wing but the re were no takers in the middle when his cross fizzed along the 6-yard box. Maud made 3 substitutions in quick succession with Walker, Lawson and Robertson on for Thomson, Mackie and Chicken.  Just on the 90th minute Robertson scored a fifth goal when he put in at the back post from a Walker cross. This was a fine performance from Maud which was helped by the excellent 4 goals from Zack Conway alongside young Tyler chicken.

Maud next fixture is on Saturday 27 April home v East End in the McBookie.com Superleague with a 2pm ko.

What sort of crowds do you get in that league?

Unfortunately I have only managed along to one match so far and it wasn't many.

The specific game I was at was probably around the 30 mark however I would believe the Aberdeen City based teams would be close to 100 +

Due to work etc I haven't managed to get along to as many games as I would like.

Maud 2 - 1 Hall Russell Utd

North Superleague

4th May 2019

MAUD Fyffe, Walker, Thornton, Crisp, Mair, Norris, Lawson, Ritchie, R Thomson, Chicken, Smart

Subs,  Robertson, Andrews, Lendrum(T), Melville(T)

Maud collected all 3 points in a hard fought match in atrocious conditions, Game kicked off with snow and rain coming down with Maud immediately putting Hall Russel under pressure from a through ball by Ritchie onto Smart who failed to capitilise. Again Maud pushed forward and only a good save by the keeper denied Smart getting on the score sheet. Finally in the 18th minute Hall Russell came alive and pushed towards goal and were denied by a superb save by Fyffe in goals to concede a corner which was well defended and cleared. A few minutes later Hall Russells keeper pulled off another great save to deny a thundering in shot from Lawson from centre edge of the 18 yard box. Only a couple of minutes later Maud took the lead when a corner was crossed in and not dealt with by the defence allowing Smart to finish off. Play flowed from end to end until a mistake by Maud in the 32nd allowed Hall Russell to capitilise on and bring the score back to level. In the dying minutes of the first half Maud took the lead again by a deflected in goal only for the assistant ref to chalk off as being offside.

1-1 HT

For the first ten minutes of the second half Maud were under pressure as Hall Russell strove to take the lead forcing Fyffe in goals to pull off a few good saves to keep the score level. Pushing forward Maud were awarded a free kick about 22 yards out but was sent flying over the bar by Norris. As play continued from end to end Norris finally got justice when in the 68th minute a powerful shot from him was palmed by the keeper but went in under the crossbar to give Maud the lead again. Maud pressed forwards gaining in confidence but mazy runs by Mair and Chicken didnt deliver the end result. Hall Russell were not lying down and came back at Maud but good defending and goal keeping kept Maud in front. Again in the dying minutes another jinxy run by chicken ended with a good save by the keeper.

A hard fought game resulting in another 3 points for Maud pushing them up the league table by another position, final game bringing Mauds season to an end is against Hermes away on tuesday 14th May with a 7.15pm KO

At least 8th position is now guaranteed for Maud JFC. A win will see us finish in 6th and a draw 7th.

Hermes 1 - 2 Maud

North  Superleague

14/05/19

A victory in our last league game of the season in a tough away game to Hermes. The 2-1 result means Maud JFC finish the league season in 6th position! :thumsup2

Given we were bottom/2nd bottom at christmas, this is a great turnaround from the new management team and all the players involved.
