Montrose v Annan (a drama in two acts)

Well that was much more dramatic than expected!

Good fast paced game with Annan on top until the penalty, which came from nothing. Looked like ball to hand and possibly outside the box. 2nd goal was a great strike but looked offside. 3rd a scrappy rebound and the 4th a result of Annan's heads gone and not being able to handle Montrose's pressing. With two smallish forwards winning nothing in the air Annan couldn't go long, Mo realised this and took advantage big style.

2nd half a different game, 3 subs, a change of formation and great attitude from Annan. Penalty looked like a dive, or at least an exaggeration upon contact, but good tenacity from Smith to get there in the first place. Mo seemed to panic at 4-2 and had Allan Fleming to thank for a cracker of a save in injury time.

A nod to Scott Hooper who brilliantly chased down Martin Rennie when it looked like he was going to seal it with his breakaway from halfway.

Gutted, but good to finish strong and positively. Have to take that into the Peterhead game on Saturday. Good luck next round Montrose

We got their in the end and did it the hard way, but the main thing is we are in the next round. Potentially a very good money maker this can see Dundee Utd bringing a good few through.

Concede an equaliser at the death sounds exactly like something Montrose would do.

I wondered if it was ill chosen Montrose substitutions that changed it for us, but sounds like it was well thought out Annan subs.

At 4 nil, you woulda thought we were home n dry, but we are montrose and we never make it easy for ourselves.

There was a half time sub for Montrose as well, quickly followed by another (Callaghan for Cregg) which seemed to be in reaction to Annan's formation change

The danger with being 4-0 up at half time is thinking that the game is already won and switching off. It is then really hard, verging on impossible, to get that momentum back if the opposition start pulling it back. Glad we are through, should be a good one against the Arabs.

Should never be losing 4 goals really though after going in half time with that lead.Just happy we are through....

Good to see the lads taking chances, being a bit selfish and having a shot with great reward.

A far cry from the first leg when we looked afraid to even try and it was chuckle brothers to me to you territory for the whole game.
