Moving forward

f**k me.

Stop talking about population, and stop feeding the boring-arsed trolls.

Our population has remained at the 5 million-ish mark for a century. In a thread about what we're to do moving forward then population shouldn't be discussed, unless we're advocating a huge exodus from other countries (UKIP trolls incoming) to have us on a level footing with Holland (one of the top dogs over the decades, with a population of 17 million).

Can't we just get back to harping on about how shite the coaching is, spouting "jobs for the boys" and posting Gemmil's gurning coupon?

Thank you.

Interesting to look at the population of Scotland, Wales and N Ireland compared to other similar countries .  Remained basically static for a long term ime, while others grow.  It's almost as if having the life, revenue and resources sucked out of them by London for three hundred years hasn't been good for them.  Particularly interesting to compare N Ireland with ROI.

Yep.  Unless you have a plan for a massive increase in Scotland's population this is a pointless discussion.

Absent that, we need to look at how countries of roughly our size have managed to succeed where we have failed.  Sometimes they've had a Bale or a Guðjohnsen, and it'd certainly be nice if we could have one of those every now and then, but again it's not the kind of thing you can really plan for.  Comparisons to England because their country happens to be next to ours and we can read their newspapers easily are again pointless.  Likewise Germany, Spain and Brazil probably don't have a lot useful to teach us in this particular context.
