Just curious to see who still pays to be told what to think.

The licence fee is fantastic value for money when put beside shit like ITV and Sky. It's worth it alone for BBC 4 and Radio 4 and to not have adverts for sanitary towels every 4 minutes.

There are no adverts because it's a public broadcasting network. In other words, the public funds it, while the Government runs it. It's certainly not "fantastic value" for Scotland however, as nowhere near our contribution share is spent on broadcasting services here.

It's a mug tax for mugs.

Anyone who buys anything that's advertised on Sky is paying twice, once for the extortionate subscription, and once for the promotion campaigns for the companies doing the adverts.

The same people that moan about the TV licence are usually the same people that listen to Capital radio all day despite it playing the same 6 songs on hard rotaion with PIP adverts every few minutes. To sum up these poeple fall squarely into the OFTW category.

The same people who pay their TV licence are usually the same people who think the BBC are an independent broadcaster that offers good value for money, whos attention spans are too short to deal with a few minutes of adverts or question the shite they're being drip fed from Westminster. :1eye

Yeh.....but but to be expected when the handing out of broadcasting licences is a matter reserved by Westminster.
Yes if only Scotland could licence things improvement would be a stick on. Like Abbelio for instance..oh no bad example.

You think other networks are independent?

I suppose in retrospect there is the common thread of London based company operating on a shoe string, fleecing the public purse through Westminster enabled business policy.

All networks have their own agenda. Private or public. But if something is being privately financed, then it has a right to an agenda by those financing it. The BBC on the other hand is financed by the public and therefore has an obligation to represent all public views. It quite clearly doesn't however. Instead of representing the public that finances it, it represents the rhetoric of the government instead.

How is it tin foil? The UK is suffering dire poverty that has been getting steadily worse over the past decade. But the people suffering are getting no representation from the BBC at all. It's all "hush hush". The BBC is told what it can and can't report on. The home office gags the BBC, just as it gags "independent investigations".

That's TV Scotland on Freeview is the future especially the News section. It's how I always imagined ALBA would be.

It was almost impossible to imagine a station worse than STV Scotland but this somehow manages it with ease with its combination of ancient out of copyright films and tenth rate QVC style ripping off the public shows.
