Meanwhile Oran Kearney seems to be getting on just fine at St Mirren as have plenty of other managers and players from an Irish catholic background in Scottish football, so it's a wee bit more complicated than that. It's more an issue of what happens when somebody starts to be equated in certain people's minds with the Provos than a strictly religious thing, which is why somebody like Nacho Novo can be a hero to the sort of people that tend to go mental where Neil Lennon is concerned despite being named after the founder of the Jesuits.
