Mgc1910 Posted November 12, 2018 Share Posted November 12, 2018 My understanding at the time was that Swansea were interested in signing Shankland to play in their under 23 team. Basically more youth development. I think young players are starting to recognise the importance of getting first team football somewhere rather than getting lost in a bigger teams youth structure. Michael Rose is another perfect example - he was nearly 21 when he came to Ayr and basically hadn’t played first team football for anyone save a very brief spell at Forfar (I think). Rose is really kicking on now, but really, he should have been at this stage 3 or 4 years back rather than stagnating at Aberdeen.
