I had something like this in an IT job I worked in about a decade ago. This guy, who was a prick came in one day and asked if I had 'turned the internet off'. Another time there was a power cut and he came running into the IT office to tell us and ask what we were going to do. Aye, some won't react well to it and a different approach is needed, but plenty will react to it in a positive manner. Sometimes some players need a kick up the arse.
