What Rule Change Would You Suggest?

Recommended Posts

I'd do away with the results in a goals scored format, and do it by crowd sizes.  So clubs like Falkirk could actually get into the top flight again before our grandchildren are long gone.

Change the rule where if a goal kick does not go out of the box the keeper gets to take it again

if a defender plays it because he is being pressed by the forward it should be an indirect or even direct free kick to the attacking team and if a forward is stupid enough to play it early make it a free kick to the defending team.

As it stands it actually encourages time wasting and negative play, especially now with so many teams playing out from the back

A 25 year back dated rolling admin rule, with the rules set in stone

First admin , 10 point penalty

Second admin , 25 point penalty plus automatic demotion of one division for the following season, so win the league you stay where you are , fail to get promotion, your relegated and if your relegated its a double relegation

Third admin, ejection from the league and that club cannot ever return with the same badge and all honours remain with the now defunct club.

Automatic yellow card for anyone, other than the team captain, going up to the referee to contest a decision. Might stop ten people surrounding the ref when a penalty or free kick is given (or not given!).

Saw a great video of a ref in Brazil recently. He gave a penalty, and as soon as he did, 3 players ran towards him to complain. He pulled the red card out of his pocket and held it at his side. Never said a word.

All 3 of them shat it and slowly crept away moaning quietly.

No drama, just let them know who was in charge.

Unfortunately it wouldn't work in Scotland, as Willie Collum would immediately flash the red card at every player within a 40 yard radius, therefore rendering every match he reffed abandoned due to lack of players.

Dundee’s whole team would’ve been booked last Saturday. Disgraceful dissent, a few of them should’ve been suspended alongside Jones for the incident.

Bring back FUCKING SHOCKING dirty tackles.

The sight of your wee nippy forward being halfed in two (from behind for the added look of surprise on his face) by that bastart of a centre half from the other team - and the seethe that it induced - is one of the things I miss most. In order for this to happen, Referees would need to revert to the "Raised eyebrow after 5 fouls, yellow card after 15" protocol that used to be in place.

In order to even things up and allow the forward to look good , it would need to be mandatory for defenders to smoke and have a minimum BMI equivalent to the average Newcastle United supporter.

In one of the other times this thread appeared (which wasn't started because Dundee are shite), someone advocated the tackle from behind being given the okay for the first fifteen minutes of a game. A tactical element added, and I agree.

Id personally like to see rules brought in to really clamp down on timewasting

The match clock stops whenever there's a shy/corner/goal kick/substitution/Injury/goal and restarts when play begins again.  Should also eradicate the need for stoppage time.

Great shout. I know a guy who used to be a Premier League official in the late 80’s and early 90’s who said that many of the officials at that time and probably still some today call the captains into their room before a match to run through how they will administer the rules in a game and many of them tell them exactly that; that the only person they want to speak to after a decision IS the captain.

It must fall on deaf ears.
