Pyramid 2019/2020

Recommended Posts

Are we again seeing political motives and misinformation playing out behind the scenes where "self-interest" of one or more Junior party is over-riding the general interests of Junior clubs as a whole in making a seamless move into the Senior Non League Pyramid?  No guesses who is behind the current log-jam.

Also hearing the meeting was a stalemate and juniors now looking very unlikely for the pyramid next year. Looks like my lot might be going east after all! Someone should get their finger out with the LL2!
I hope LL2 West and East is on their radar. Given the stalemate, the door is wide open to get this on the table. I doubt the EoS, SoS and SFA would have any objections and would largely break the impasse. Even an initial single division with 8 west and 8 east clubs would move things along rapidly.

The problem is probably that you have a national body that has no ongoing obvious role in a pyramid context doing the negotiations rather than the three regions.

Correct. There isn't a one size fits all solution for the three Junior regions. Get the leagues round the table, not the SJFA.

I would split the current Lowland League into two, at tier 5, with a LL East and an LL West.  Along with the Highland League you would then have better regional pyramid set up at tier 5.

East Kilbride, BSC, Cumbernauld, Edusport, Gretna and Dalbeattie would move to the LLW and the top half dozen or more West Junior sides should be invited to join them (e.g. Auchinleck, Hulrford, Pollok, Beith etc.)  The vacancies in the LLE would create vacancies that would allow the accelerated promotion of the ambitious EOS sides such as Bonnyrigg, Linlithgow, Penicuik, Hill of Beath, Bo'ness etc.

I'd drop the SoS league to tier 6 as being their more appropriate level, or perhaps merge them with ex WOS Juniors in a regionalised pyramid set up at tiers 6/7/8.

There could be a case for creating another a fourth regional league at tier 5 for the "Midlands", to allow Tayside, Perth and Fife juniors/senior sides to participate.  That would allow a better play-off structure to advance to the SPFL.

The promotion to the SPFL should be opened up to allow the automatic promotion / relegation of at least one team each season.

Split at tier 5 in the LL cant happen as lack of licensed clubs in west. An all in for the north (Highland League) & the south (Lowland League) ie how it currently stands is the right set up. Also makes no sense to jump from national football if relegated from SPFL2 to sub-regional.

Neither does it make sense having no relegation from the HFL at tier 5 when if there are other leagues like West East or South ,even Midlands,  such is the lop sidedness of Scotland's geography, how can that be a proper pyramid ??

None of the problems you see are insurmountable.  Give clubs a season's grace to get their licence. If they don't achieve it then they will automatically be relegated.  If they don't want to go to the bother of obtaining a licence, then tier 5 would be closed to them.

A some point in the pyramid you have to relegate someone from a national league to a regional league. The LL like the HL and SoS  are the current regional leagues at tier 5. East Stirlingshire therefore dropped from a national league at tier 4 into a regional league at tier 5.

Incorporating the North Juniors and North Caledonian Leagues into the regional pyramid for the HL  could provide a promotion/relegation setup there.

I'm not being critical of yourself, but I think many people find it easier to find reasons not to change rather than seek solutions that enable positive change.

SOS is tier 6 alongside the EOS.

I know LL & HL are regional. Your proposal would have going from national football to east/west leagues which are sub-regional ie sub-regions of established LL territory. A club dropping national football would be fine playing in the current lowland & its geographic scope from D&G to Fife.

There's not going to be a LL West and LL East at tier 5 anytime soon, the SPFL clubs dont want it, they want it how it is, one north league and once south league to relegate clubs into.  The LL are talking of a second division, that's your best hope of a west and east division, at tier 6.

While 3 regions at Tier 5 might be a better scenario long term. There's too much vested interest from competing parties to split at the moment. The best way to get there is LL2 West and LL2 East.
