Berwick Rangers 2018/2019 Thread

One dubious decision can easily cost a club the League title 'eg in an end of season deciding game.  Lotteries involve luck - taking penalties and saving them requires skill.  Two entirely different things because if taking penalties is a lottery why did they do away with tossing a coin to decide?  Generally in two legged games the best team wins - a play off isn't like a one match Cup final you get a second chance to get the right overall result.

No if you're last you have had a poor season and you are penalised appropriately by whatever the rules say.  The LL/HL signed up to those rules and were grateful that the SPFL clubs agreed to such an arrangement as before they had little or no chance of getting into the SPFL.  If they can strengthen the LL/HL over time in terms of clubs, finance, sponsors, etc., then they can try and negotiate a change in the arrangements with some basis.

Signing up to one agreement doesn't bar you from negotiating for further progress. The club's below the SPFL have had to improve facilities to the point they now have more appropriate grounds than the existing SPFL clubs. In terms of sponsorship the SPFL have hoovered up all the bookies and pawn shops. Maybe the non-leagues could look towards the security and tanning businesses before the SPFL get there.

Yes so what are they offering the SPFL clubs to get this major concession via negotiations. They have to persuade SPFL clubs to vote any change through - your comment re non SPFL grounds being more appropriate than those of the existing SPFL clubs is nonsense. The 42 SPFL grounds are on average miles ahead - you can criticise Central Park but I have been to K-Park!

If you're last you've had a shite season and shouldn't have a second chance to stay up. You win the division below, you deserve promotion, with no added hurdles.

The only problem would be you would have two champions from the leagues below so there would have to be a play-off of some sort.

I didn't say they were ideal, but they are being held to a higher standard than existing members.

A feature demanded by the SPFL. A flexible boundary and league\division adjustment would help.

The SPFL had no relegation - they then generously agree to give other teams the opportunity to gain admittance

That’s kind of how a pyramid system works, you make it sound like an act of charity.

There should be no need to prove you are better than the bottom side. That doesn’t happen in any other league I can think of. Bottom deserves to be relegated.

No idea what you are talking about - Licensing standards are the same across the game - SPFL clubs are all at entry, bronze, silver, gold, platinum levels.  There is no higher standard to be achieved outwith the SPFL they are graded exactly the same in terms of facilities and other licensing aspects.  Indeed there are extra SPFL requirements beyond the license level including floodlights

Yes once a League has shown that it truly represents the strongest clubs below the bottom of the SPFL.  The Lowland League didn't meet that requirement and the Highland League has many clubs not that interested in being in SPFL.  The Pyramid is not yet strong enough below SPFL to warrant further concession as yet.

Albion Rivers,  Cliftonhill is clearly not of an acceptable standard as it is. It is clear that the standards aren't uniformly applied.

They' just brought in a goalkeeper on an emergency loan as well, but that's ok because allowed

You trot out this  bollocks time and time again, who makes the decision that these leagues will have to be further strengthened?

Nobody - but otherwise they wont get any change

Cliftonhill isn't the best but must tick the boxes somewhere it may replace by K-Park which isn't much better from a spectators point of view.
