They are indeed  Just need to get rules on same playing field. Has Martin Scott not just joined Cove outwith window?

Yes he has and that’s the issue

he could not sign for Albion rovers or Berwick as outwith the spfl transfer  window.

in effect, if Cove or East Kilbride can persuade any players to be released early from their contracts ,they can sign them now. Spfl clubs cannot.

If you finish bottom it means your shit and should go down and let fresh blood into the league!!!

I predict that the 2nd div will be unrecognisable within 5 years!!

The highland league is decent and the lowland league is becoming stronger so all good and i hope that one of them goes up this season

Why - if these other teams are so good they will beat the bottom team in a play off. The SPFL had no relegation - they then generously agree to give other teams the opportunity to gain admittance by proving they are better than the SPFL team they replace mano a mano. Seems very fair on that basis - you want our place come and take it.

The Highland League isn't really that strong having lost Peterhead, Elgin, Caley, Thistle and Ross County. The Lowland League will be a stronger league soon but has been held back by the juniors failing to embrace change quickly enough

You've left that on a cliff hanger..

Looking forward to the final chapter, hope it ends well.

Over a two legged play off its hardly certain that the best team will win. Personally not overly sure but I'd be edging toward thinking bottom spot should be down straight away too

So ... is that your view on promotion and relegation across the world or just for your league?  You should be aligned to the rest of the SPFL - one down automatically and one in a play off. This "but they can sign players" is class whataboutery. All the leagues are part of the Professional Game and governed by the same board. If there are differences then they're agreed and accepted.

I can’t see that in his post tbf.

Why ?
maybe when the highland and lowland league adopt the same rules but at the moment they can sign players when spfl clubs can’t. They can play trialists  when spfl clubs can’t.
Thats not a level playing field. Same rules for all before any true pyramid can exist.
The club finishing bottom of league 2 gets a lot more money than those in the Highland and Lowland league. Struggling to think of another league were the bottom side gets a chance to stay up via a play off rather than go down automatically. The bottom club also gets to play at home in the second leg. Club42 has a lot of advantages that the clubs in the Lowland or Highland don't.

No - lots of different promotion/relegation formats.  The Club 42 is as sensible and apt as most other options.  It is aligned to the rest of the SPFL  - LL and HL have nothing to do with the SPFL.  That can sign players isn't whataboutery - these matters weren't properly addressed when Pyramid was set up and so should be.  The playoff though was addressed properly at inception.

The best team should win a 2 legged playoff most of the time - that's football, that's bottle, that's life
Cowdenbeath survived the play offs by the skin of their teeth twice. Once in the lottery of a penalty shootout and by decking the Cove keeper to score a dubious goal. Both play offs could have very easily went the other way.

So there's a complaint that there shouldn't be relegation when the playing field isn't level. That's the gist of the argument. It may be the case that Cove or EK can sign a player but on the other hand, they don't get access to anything the sort of handouts that come from being part of the SPFL.

LL and HL are now very much linked to the SPFL. It's almost unbelievable that a supporter of an SPFL team can complain that they're at a disadvantage compared to the teams in the league below.

I've read the thoughts of Berwick  fans on the prospect of going to the Lowland League and the massive financial hit they'd take. You can't have it all ways - although that seems the plan.

Yes but also having the bottle and team spirit to go and win them.  Penalties aren't a lottery - why even say that.  Dubious goal but maybe their keeper fouled Sheerin first and maybe their first goal was offside - that is just VAR fodder.  Listen if we had lost and gone down I wouldn't be on here crying about it and how we  deserved to stay up.  We played two teams from large towns/cities that are well-bankrolled not little plucky outsiders as the media might portray them

If you're last you've had a shite season and shouldn't have a second chance to stay up. You win the division below, you deserve promotion, with no added hurdles.

I watched the second leg of East Stirlingshire v Edinburgh City, both sides were awful that day, the highlight of the game was a round of applause for the home side stringing three passes together.

No if you're last you have had a poor season and you are penalised appropriately by whatever the rules say.  The LL/HL signed up to those rules and were grateful that the SPFL clubs agreed to such an arrangement as before they had little or no chance of getting into the SPFL.  If they can strengthen the LL/HL over time in terms of clubs, finance, sponsors, etc., then they can try and negotiate a change in the arrangements with some basis.

But Edinburgh City were better - I was at that game.  Dire but City were a bit better.  In the Cowdenbeath games, I don't think you could argue East Kilbride were better in those matches.  Cove could have wrapped up the tie after the 1st leg and 45 minutes of the second but Cowden then stepped up to the plate and Cove to a degree self-destructed

More often than not the keeper guesses which way to dive in a penalty shootout. Undoubtedly you do have keepers and players that are excellent at saving or taking penalties but over the course of a penalty shootout a fair bit of luck comes into play.

A league season is over 36 games and although dubious decisions my impact individual games over the course of the season they won't have a big impact on promotion or relegation. It can have a huge impact over a two legged play off.
