Is the 3rd team guaranteed??? According to the Wikipedia page the 3rd and 4th Scottish teams go into the 2nd qualifier meaning 3 qualifying rounds to get to the groups.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2021–22_UEFA_Europa_Conference_League#Teams

The Scottish Cup winners go into the EL unless the SC winner is already 1st, 2nd or 3rd in the league.

Yes. I'd like there to be more but 4th and 5th getting through 3 qualifiers with 2 unseeded isn't an easy task. It's easier than the EL qualifiers now but not loads easier.

If Scotland can keep the 3rd spot that basically guarantees group stage football for a non-OF side, that will help the 4th-5th team over time.

Group Stage football will allow for them to increase their own club co-efficient and as 3rd/SC winner is more of a revolving door, over time they'd would slot in as the 4th-5th qualifier with a higher seeding than they currently do.

Aberdeen being the obvious example. Currently 4th, if they had a group stage appearance to their ranking they would be more likely to be seeded in the Conference 3rd Qualifying Round.

Any idea what the financial implications are of group stage for the Conference League? Wondering how helpful that will be for whomever it is next year?

Millions most likely, but don't believe the exact figures are known as UEFA hasn't come out with them yet. Bit of a talking point today as you've had Motherwell's Chief Exec asking for the Scottish Cup to be completed this season so that the winner can enter.

There's the same issue over how coefficients might be adjusted for 3 competitions. Some speculating that the Europa League might end up with more Bonus Points for instance.

Appreciate it. Any chance you can link an article on what the Well CE was saying?

Interesting stuff. That would be life-changing £ for anyone outside of the OF and maybe Hibs (who seem to be able to turn down £4 million with no problem).

If the Scottish Cup doesn't get completed, would they just send 3rd to Europa League and 4th and 5th to Conference?

Think the coefficient points are already out on the kassiesa forums (though not officially confirmed).
Long story short, there's bonus points flying all over the place.

Guessing this is it:

https://kassiesa.net/uefa/forum2/viewtopic.php?p=455087#p455087

Match results (2 points for a win and 1 point for a draw) will be awarded from the group stage of CL, EL, and ECL onwards, with the exception of the knockout rounds for EL-R16 and ECL-R16. For the country coefficient matches in qualifying rounds are awarded with 1 points for a win, and 0.5 point for a draw.

Qualifying club points for elimation in:
ECL-Q1 = 1.0 point
ECL-Q2 = 1.5 points
ECL-Q3 = 2.0 points
ECL-Q4 = 2.5 points

Minimum club points for playing in:
ECL-GS = min 2.5 points
EL-GS = min 3.0 points

Bonus points (also count for country ranking):
CL-GS = 4 points
EL-GW = 4 points
EL-RU = 2 points
ECL-GW = 2 points
ECL-RU = 1 point

EL-KO en ECL-KO no bonus points, no match points

CL-R16 = 5 points
EL-R16 = 1 point

CL-QF = 1 point
EL-QF = 1 point

CL-SF = 1 point
EL-SF = 1 point
ECL-SF = 1 point

CL-F = 1 point
EL-F = 1 point
ECL-F = 1 point

Maximum number of points per club (may be deducted from the info above):
CL = 38 points
EL = 34 points
ECL = 30 points

Not sure if you're at the wind up but there's no chance of that happening. The conference league is not that massive of a step below the Europa League.
If you use the current positions of clubs in their leagues across Europe for next years seedings, the last 16 of the conference league could (very roughly) involve PSV, Rangers, Qarabag, Steaua Bucharest, Rennes, Malmo, Spartak Moscow, Real Sociedad, Tottenham, Atalanta, Basel, Plzen, B.Monchengladbach, Anderlecht, Astana, S.Leige.

It'd be a miracle if any team outside Rangers & Celtic even made it out their conference group, nevermind compete with those teams above.

You're spot on. Unfortunately this competition would actually be more entertaining if it was just the minnows, but they've basically decided (for god knows what reason) to move the current Europa League into a new Conference League, with absolutely none of the prestige and history that the UEFA Cup has. They've then kept the Europa League as a bare bones version of its current self where only the best of the regulars get in.

A mental decision that will hopefully be reversed when it's exposed for the shambles it is.

Agreed. Wish they would have designed it more for that. Currently, Liverpool would be in ECL. Who wants to see them beat the piss out of teams that would have a hard time finishing in the top 15 of the Championship?

The top four countries should be kept out of the ECL.

Scottish football should prioritise winning the European Conference League. It would be great if a Scottish side won it.  We have not had a Scottish team win a UEFA trophy since 1983. Lets hope St Johnstone, Hibernian, or Aberdeen  can win the Europa Conference League.

It's more like a competition that Celtic or Rangers could win if they dropped out of the Europa League

Having looked at the teams conference seems   as possible as current Europa

that’s before you add in the teams dropping out of the Europa League.  Quite a mixed bag, but enough big clubs in there.

Depends how seriously they want to take USDA’s third rank tournament I suppose.

I read that all games are on Thursdays and kickoffs will be 3:30pm, 5:45pm and 8pm.

Does that mean some games in UK could be played at those earlier times - to avoid clashing with EL same night - even though it would be inconvenient for home fans?

Does it just mean that EL and Conference League games will clash, and games in ex-Soviet countries will use early time and games in UK will use late time, like happened in EL until now?

The 3.30pm kick-off time will be for Eastern Europe only.

5.45pm (6.45pm CE(S)T) is the new kick-off time for the early Europa League games as well, primarily to ensure all games are finished before the late games kick off. I'm sure that as now, they'll try to avoid having UK and Portuguese teams at home at that time, but sometimes it might be unavoidable within the constraints of their scheduling model.

Thanks, so no afternoon games here and unlikely to be any teatime games.

Does that mean Conference League games are less likely to be on TV once centralised deal kicks-in from QR4?

They'll have 16 games in EL to choose from on top of any Conference League options.

I would imagine that UK teams will all be shown, but yes ECL games will probably be right down the pecking order.

It actually wouldn't surprise me if BT put ECL games without UK interest free on YouTube.
