Lowland Trapdoorwatch 2018-19

You would think that, if Stirling University LL team were relegated to the EOS Premier division, then their reserve side could play in a lower division. After all, there were proposals to play Old Firm colts teams in League Two, which, obviously, is in a lower division of the same league.

If the rules were altered they could. If the rules remained unaltered they couldn't. OF fantasies in one league will not magic away the rules in another... You'd also need to clear-up issues, such as voting rights. Otherwise, going by rulebook I have (which is a few years old), "no club may enter more than one team in the competition".

Could Stranraer or Stirling Uni EOS change their administrative structure and/or name and be eligible? I'm thinking something like a separate holding company which manages player registration, separate finances, hire stadium from the first team?

I'm sure they could but you then run into logistical trouble that mightn't be worth the hassle - they would need their own office bearers, committees, bank accounts etc. - and of course the big problem that they'd have to de-register and re-register players every time they moved between teams. It would also be a bit awkward if they drew each other in cups, though hopefully they'd both be going out to win.

EDIT: Also worth saying just a name itself need not be a determining factor... Indeed you already have a single club colloquially known as "University of Stirling" in LL and most cups, "Stirling University EOS" in EOSL and a couple of cups, and "Stirling University Under 20s" in U20 competitions. It'd get pretty confusing were it otherwise, infact!

I remember when Real Madrid's reserves qualified for Europe after winning the Spanish Cup!

Think they were called Castilla or something similar.

Now called Real Madrid Castilla (were called Castilla CF at the time) as Spanish FA hasnt allowed B/C clubs to have different names from the parent club since early 90s.

They actually lost the final to Real Madrid proper 6-1 in the 79-80 final. Real Madrid had already won La Liga that season so Castilla took the cup winners cup place where they got beat 8-2 by West Ham.

Stranraer is a member's club, not a company.

Felt like a bump, and afterall who'll stop me?

Whitehill's prospects grew grimmer after Dalbeattie won at Edinburgh Uni... Rosewell men 6pts adrift and Star have 1 game-in-hand.

Lowland League (28 games)

10   East Stir.     P15  17pts
11   Vale of L.     P14  15pts

12   Gretna         P15  14pts

13   Stirling Uni   P14  13pts

 ~  ~  ~  ~  ~  ~  ~  ~  ~  ~

14   Dalbeattie     P13  11pts

==============================

15   Whitehill      P14   5pts

It already looks a tall order for an eligible club to win SOSL.Threave are best-placed of the licensed sides but with half their program complete find themself in 6th, 11pts off top having played 3 games more.

South of Scotland League (30 games)

 1   Stranraer SOS  P12 36pts

-----------------------------

 2   Lochar         P14 31pts

 3   Bonnyton       P12 29pts

 4   Upper Annand.  P14 28pts

 5   Abbey Vale     P13 27pts
 6   Threave        P15 25pts

What a league EOSL is turning into. Big wins for Newtongrange and Hill of Beath over Musselburgh and Penicuik today (latter losing their 100% and unbeaten record) has Conference A's top 4 separated by only 4pts. Bonnyrigg and Dundonald look likely to wrestle for B but maybe Tranent can reel them in using games-in-hand. Jeanfield's win over Broxburn lifts them into 2nd but again there are 4 challengers separated by only 6pts.

East of Scotland League – Conference A (24 games)

 1   Penicuik       P12  33pts

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

 2   Hill of Beath  P11  30pts, +45

 3   Musselburgh    P12  30pts, +19

 4   Newtongrange   P12  29pts

East of Scotland League – Conference B (24 games)

 1   Bonnyrigg      P11  31pts

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

 2   Dundonald      P13  27pts

 3   Sauchie        P12  23pts, +11
 4   Dalkeith       P13  23pts,  +7

 5   Bo'ness        P10  21pts, +17
 6   Crossgates     P11  21pts, +13

 7   Tranent        P9   20pts

East of Scotland League – Conference C (24 games)

 1   Linlithgow     P11  30pts

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

 2   Jeanfield      P11  29pts

 3   Broxburn       P11  27pts

 4   Camelon        P10  24pts
 5   Preston        P13  20pts

Accidental drug references aside, not me! Your updates to Trapdoor watch and EOS Top 5s are always welcome.

With all respect to Dundonald it's hard to see them reeling in Bonnyrigg, so I'd say at this point there are 9 genuine contenders for the EOS title. Very pleasing. And the teams at the top of each conference are the top 3 from last season's East Superleague.

Bonnyton look to have improved their ground according to the new NLS photos, wonder if they are going for a licence? http://nonleaguescotland.org.uk/bonnyton.htm

In the EOS which clubs have said they are going for a licence? Hopefully all three conference winners get one so the round robin is meaningful.

Conference A: Penicuik? Hill of Beath? Newtongrange?

Conference B: Bonnyrigg, Dalkeith, Tranent, Dundonald?

Conference C: Linlithgow and Preston already have their licence, Jeanfield and Camelon going for one.

I think they will be going by all the work they've been doing. I know its been mentioned that they are working to get the cover for a 100.

Threave with their seventh defeat of the season sees them as the highest ranked SOS team with a licence, some 14 points and three games behind Stranraer reserves who haven't lost a match. Unless Bonnyton get a licence it's looking very unlikely that the SOS will supply a champion for the LL play-off.

Should Bonnyton get a license, and apply for Selkirk's place, it may be looked upon favourably given their location and effectively promoting the lowland league in Ayrshire?

Just a thought

Aye considering the wee rose and their supporters have slagged off the Lowland league and the teams in it for years it would be a bit of a minter for them if they failed to win the EOS conference and had to try and beg their way in. :)

The possibility of a team not qualifying for automatic promotion to Lowland league but getting in through application?
