With the remote outposts of Ayr and Dingwall donininating the top of the league celebratory thread, it has almost, almost, gone unnoticed that a far more centrally located team has continued its relentless, vertiginous descent to territories usually seen as the preserve of part time village teams. Going in to September, Falkirk have held off the determined efforts of Alloa, with Dunfermline Athletic also showing a keen interest in grabbing bottom spot. A big well done to Hartley and the boys but for how long can they hold on to the keys? We have to salute Falkirk's strength, courage and indefatigability in holding off challengers for the coveted one way ticket to the seaside. Sometimes a bigger club needs the helping hand of administration/points deductions to bag bottom spot ahead of the part timers but Falkirk are on the cusp of this great achievement entirely on merit and sporting achievement. Surely they can't throw away 10th place now? Stranger things have happened on the last day.
