If someone is eligible by the rules, and can come in and perform professionally while being better than what we have, I don't care if he joins the squad with a bag full of finest Royal Family crockery and a bulldog. Ritchie never seemed arsed at all, apart from a brief period during the Poland game. But there's a big difference between not feeling particularly Scottish, but still wanting to join up and give 100% for the side, rather than "naaaah, can't be arsed with that right now, maybe later".
