The team that Shankland played for over there were pretty hopeless and finished 12 points adrift, don’t think that’s a great measure of him as a player

And he was playing right back at one point I believe.

I've actually been impressed since he's come back.

I'd be really intrigued to see a Shankland/Nisbet combo if Dykes is out. Obviously Adams has the shirt to lose currently, but it would be interesting to see - I think they could work together well

So the current situation is:

Dykes: out for the foreseeable with pneumonia

Stewart: out for the season

Nisbet: off injured the other night. Not sure how bad it was?

That leaves us with Adams, Shankland, Brown, McBurnie to call on, and the likes of Christie and Fraser as secondary strikers if needed.

In short: If Adams gets injured, we're in trouble for these qualifiers.

The current situation always was...Adams

He's by miles first choice

So they'll play him with one off, likely Christie

The paucity of strikers in this country is an endemic problem with our clubs addicted to foreign players and fans of those clubs quite happy with that

Naff all to do with foreign players - if they're good enough they'll get the chance. Hell, plenty of boys that are nowhere near good enough get their chance.

Fraser can effectively be discounted too. Hasn’t played any football since a 17 minute sub appearance in October, and has only made the Newcastle squad twice since the World Cup (first game back, and an FA Cup tie). Unused sub in both.

He’ll be kicking his heels til August sadly.

What a load of absolute shite

How do you think the foreign players got to the level deemed good enough to be sold, cause they got game time and improved

We buy in these no marks who will never be any better than average,  denying our young players the game time to improve

Any time a Scottish clubs gets a decent transfer value on a sale,  it's a scot, they should develop more

The funny thing is, pretty much every major underperforming European nation has a relatively strong domestic league (Turkey, Russia etc.).

The very best performing nations like Italy or France have cosmopolitan leagues, whereas Brazil and Argentina export their best talen.t.

Is there any cases where restricting foreigners has worked? Saudi Arabia doesn't let its players move abroad, how's that working for them?

You agree

Good man

Not surprised what with the fabled united youth system of old vs the modern half a team of foreigners trash

We've literally got a 16yo Scottish striker keeping a 'foreigner' out of our team now.

Stop living in the past grandad.

I mean in fairness the lack of striking options is a concern but we're not the only nation afflicted with that.  I'd love us to have someone who can score regularly for Scotland, and we have done recently,  but as with many international sides, you need your strikers doing more than being a penalty box poacher.  With that in mind, Che Adams is by far our best option, Dykes when fit gives us the physicality and we've got the likes of Tommy Conway coming through from the 21s, and potentially Fraser Hornby if he continues showing form in Belgium
