People forget that on the Titanic's maiden voyage there were over 1000 miles of uneventful, very pleasurable cruising.

Mines were on sticks attached to the seabed.

Sticks? Maybe, I always figured they were buoyant and anchored to the seabed with chains, so that they would float just below the surface.

 

The metal would be heavy but the mine wouldn't be all solid metal ie. It would be hollow with enough air inside it to make it buoyant. Is that how buoyancy works? Fk knows TBH.
