Selkirk possible demise

Recommended Posts

With Selkirk looking almost certainly done for, it pretty much guarantees at least one 6th placed Conference club a place in next year's EoS Premier.

Have things taken a further turn for the worse at Selkirk or are you just referring to lasts months happenings?

They've just withdrawn from the Lowland League

If we'd assume Peterhead/Elgin don't finish bottom of SPFL2; Dalbeattie/Gretna don't finish bottom of LL; and EOSL winner gets promoted... which are all pretty reasonable!... then 2 of them are guaranteed if LL champion wins promotion or 10th in SPFL2 survive, and 1 of them if HL champion wins promotion.

Basically you can think of the top 6s like a "top 18" and if 1 is promoted to LL then there's space for 16 of remaining 17, unless an extra club is joining LL from above.

Indeed AFAICS some permutations could see 2 promoted from EOSL to LL meaning all 6ths get in.

All the permutations just now hurt my head, which I left it at the guarantee of one :)

The implosion of Selkirk FC has been on the cards and near enough inevitable for a while now so I don’t think we’ll have to wait too long to hear what the contingency plan is.

There used to be a list on LL website showing where relegated clubs would go.

Dalbeattie, Gretna, EK and BSCG were on SOSL list (no surprises). Oddity was Cumbernauld who were on EOSL list, IIRC.

Cumbernauld is only a few miles fron Dunipace so would make sense.

Could you advise where in the rules it says 2 promotion slots from EOS ?

Don't know why people getting excited winner of eosfl sosfl playoff replaces selkirk. Club 15 from lowland league would only be relegated if a lowland club relegated from league 2 and highland champions go up

It doesn't, and that's not what I said, but 2 could be promoted if there's a vacancy - whether by 15th being regarded as bottom, and/or the various well-known SPFL2 permutations (e.g. LL winner promoted, Elgin/Peterhead relegated).

While it is sad news for Selkirk, and I am sure no one wants to dance on their grave. It does mean that the EOS Premier will be stronger next season, and that at least one more team will make it there from this season's EOS. It's certainly not good news, but ultimately, it will turn out to be so for one team.

They would actually be better if it's a 14 team leagues IMO.  Top 5 from each obviously playoff winner go up with noone coming down. Leaving 24 clubs plus whoever joins syngenta anyway to make up structure below

Why would anyone be surprised by others trying to work out the possibilities here?  There is a vacancy. None of the teams in here created it but it may impact them. There's nothing vulture like about it. Nobody has sat here waiting for a club to keel over. But it's now happened and folk want to understand what that means in terms of next season.

Agree with you here if anyone should be explaining its those responsible for burning about 130 years of history with the death of Selkirk FC. How could you allow this to happen, any of those responsible care to comment?

No chance of it being downsized - and team(s) excluded which would otherwise have qualified - as a result of LL club Selkirk's demise, IMO.

In any case... if had a Cove up/Cowdenbeath down scenario you'd overshoot and end-up with 15.
