Okay - I agree with you that it is disproportionate - that being said I think it has been more of an issue since the membership increased - as with all parties that grow fast there will always be a few more rotten apples than in the past.

I don't think Corbyn has handled things particularly well either - the backtracking and apologies don't come across as sincere - they have McDonnell's fingerprints all over them.

As I said before I don't have much sympathy - it's not just Corbyn's associations with known antisemites - Labour have not exactly been slow off the mark when it comes to accusing other parties of being racist. Live by the sword and die by the sword.

A big hoo-ha was made about the Auschwitz survivor who had compared Israel to the Nazis. That's the level of embarrassment that we're dealing with here. Calling out Holocaust survivors for anti-Semitism.

Not an exhaustive list but some examples. 

Raed Salah - Corbyn invited him for tea on the parliamentary terrace, describing him as “a very honoured citizen” despite that fact that Salah was found by a British court judge to have used “blood libel”, the medieval antisemitic canard that Jews use gentile blood for ritual purposes. Salah has history of antisemitic statements including that 9/11 was a Jewish conspiracy.

 

Stephen Sizer - Corbyn wrote a letter defending this Church of England vicar who was disciplined for linking to an article on social media entitled 9/11: Israel Did It.

 

Carlos Latuff - shared a platform with the cartoonist who regularly uses antisemitic imagery in his cartoons but denies being antisemitic. Middle East Monitor, the group organising the event, has been accused by the Community Security Trust of promoting conspiracy theories and myths about Jews.

 

Corbyn has also presented a call-in programme on Press TV, a propaganda channel of the Iranian government which was banned by Ofcom and which regularly hosts Holocaust deniers.

 

Corbyn was also quite happy to call Hamas his friends - this at a time when Hamas charter stated:

 

“The prophet, prayer and peace be upon him, said: ‘The time will not come until Muslims will fight the Jews (and kill them); until the Jews hide behind rocks and trees, which will cry: O Muslim! there is a Jew hiding behind me, come on and kill him!"

 

I genuinely don't believe that Corbyn is antisemitic but that he is extremely naive in who he shares a platform with when it comes to Palestine.

Accusing Jews of perpetrating 9-11 yes.  That's not necessarily anti Semitic.  It's just a theory.  May be wrong, may be crazy, but is not evidence of anti semitism on its own.  Is it anti Muslim to accuse Muslims of perpetrating it?

The theory is rooted in the Judeo-Masonic conspiracy theory as propagated by "The Protocols of the Elders of Zion" which purported to be an expose of a worldwide Jewish conspiracy. 

 

Corbyn has a dreadful sense of judgement - the article below sums thus up.

No it's not.  That's you making that assumption.  There's any number of ways that theory could have evolved.  There were various reports at the time that could have lent credence to it.  You don't get to convict somebody for what you think they think.

In 2003, the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) published a report attacking "hateful conspiracy theories" that the 9/11 attacks were carried about by Israelis and Jews, saying they had the potential to "rationalize and fuel global anti-Semitism." It found that such theories were widely accepted in the Arab and Muslim world, as well as in Europe and the United States.   The ADL's report asserted that many of the theories were modern manifestation of the 19th century Protocols of the Elders of Zion, which purported to map out a Jewish conspiracy for world domination. The ADL has characterized the Jeff Rense website as carrying anti-Semitic materials, such as "American Jews staged the 9/11 terrorist attacks for their own financial gain and to induce the American people to endorse wars of aggression and genocide on the nations of the Middle East and the theft of their resources for the benefit of Israel."  

 

 

You should also Google Stephen Sizer - a repeat offender when it comes to posting links to antisemitic websites such as The Ugly Truth. It's amazing the number of times he claims such postings were "accidental" - at least ten separate incidents were evidenced against him in a complaint in late October 2012.

 

These included statements made by Sizer, or material he had passed to his contacts. In addition to The Ugly Truth, they stated that he had linked to the Veterans Today website, and the Window into Palestine website which features an image of a Nazi flag with a swastika superimposed on the Star of David

 

And he continued to make these accidental links until eventually being banned by the Church of England from social media for a period of 6 months in February 2015. He, not surprisingly, left his church post by 2017.
