There might be a problem with anti-Semitism in the Labour Party but it is nowhere near as wide spread or problematic as is being presented.  It is definitely nowhere near as widespread as it is in and on the fringes of the Tory Party.

The real motivation for raising it is very little to do with genuinely addressing anti-Semitism.

The problem might be that there's a higher proportion of nutters who are very active in the CLPs than amongst the membership in general. I just think you have to either be very dedicated or have a screw loose to want to go to all these meetings in the evening. So they'll have a higher profile than ordinary members and more likely be picked up on in the press. The leader of that Liverpool CLP there's been a fuss about has been on the David Icke show going on about how the Rothschilds have run the world since the Napoleonic Wars, apparently.

It’s still a tiny number and is being exaggerated to serve a certain purpose.

Of course it is, and as with the SNP the right-wing newspapers will focus on making them look like a party of fanatics in an attempt to marginalise them.

But the fact remains Labour have left themselves vulnerable to being painted as left-wing extremists. They're their own worst enemy.

There are many millions of people UK-wide who identify themselves as 'centre left' and who would traditionally see themselves as Labour voters. Labour are now in real danger of losing many of these people for good, as they stumble between incompetence, paralysis and a blind commitment to some kind of pie-in-the-sky Socialist ideology.

The MSM will continue to paint them as left-wing extremists and there is absolutely nothing the Labour Party can do about it.

I don’t thing it is fair to say that they are bringing this on themselves.

I have absolutely no problem with exposing abusive internet  trolls.  The world would be a far better place if these folk were held to account.

I'm unsure if this is new or if it's always been this way, however people seem more stubborn and set in their ways at the moment than at any other time I can remember.

It's like your stereotypical Express or Mail reader who are unwilling to debate or see any other side of an argument, it matters not the facts or the arguments put forward as they will stick to the narrative that is being preached and won't challenge it or look for other views or opinions. It's not just them of course as there are examples on all sides of the political spectrum from left to right to indy or whatever.

For these reasons alone, I think it may prove very difficult for a self publicised "centre" party to make any sort of real headway, as the Lib Dems have found to their cost in recent times.

Regarding the MSM, they're just preaching a narrative that half nod and agree with and the other half detest and see as all lies and a "put up" job, I'm generally in the camp of the latter but I do find it all increasingly tedious. Journalism always had an angle but I just feel everything is extremes nowadays and that's just feeding down throughout society and bringing out the worst in people.

Can we do anything to change it ? probably not, but sooner or later things are going to come to a head and if we do end up with a "hard Brexit" then maybe that will be a catalyst for change, how that manifests itself is open to debate but what can't be argued is that some sort of change is needed, because we really can't go on much longer like this......

Riley and Olberman didn't recieve much if any trolling though.

They just had lots of people pointing out that they are venomous liars which is true. Rachel Riley stated that Noam Chomsky and Ken Loach are anti Semites. Hopefully they will sue her.

Theres been some research done that shows for some groups, debunking actually hardens their support for their cause.

Also the internet has just fragmented news up so you can just consume the news that fits your world view.

Not sure how you fix it without intrusive regulation.

My worry here is that these people sail very close to the wind (to say the least) and then are the first to go greeting to mummy when the tiger that they're poking tries to bite them. In reality terms it's free speech and the right to express your views and opinions which they are attempting to erode as it goes against their more than questionable agenda.

Riley should get back to the "numbers game" and give us all some peace.............

I see Degsy Hatton has only lasted two days before being suspended for the highlighted tweet from 2012

Quote

Derek Hatton, the controversial former deputy leader of Liverpool council, has been suspended from the Labour party just two days after being allowed back in after 34 years.

The 71-year-old has been suspended pending an investigation into a tweet he posted in 2012 blaming Jews for Israeli government policy.

The tweet, which resurfaced after he was readmitted to the party on Monday, said: “Jewish people with any sense of humanity need to start speaking out publicly against the ruthless murdering being carried out by Israel!

A Labour source said: “Derek Hatton was given provisional membership, pending NEC approval. The party was not aware of this material. Once this was brought to our attention he was suspended pending the NEC’s decision.”

I don't think asking specifically for Jewish people (presumably residing in the UK), a group that might have an influence on Israel to speak out against the violence, is anti-semitic,

It's just fucking stupid and racist. If people are Likud supporters then fair enough but you can't just make political associations because of religion/ethnicity.

For years the textbook Gammon line was to demand that Muslims condemn terrorist attacks and lots of complaints that somehow they weren't doing it correctly. That was stupid and racist as well.

Yep. 99.9% of Labour members never being accused of anti-semitism. Approx 90% of cases have being progressed.

That would be a huge breach of bioethics and have very severe repercussions for the companies and universities involved.

As you are very unlikely to be passing round random conspiracy theories about Jews, I am sure you will have passed on the details of the institutions involved to the likes of WHO and CDC. Well done for that and let us know the consequences for such incredibly unethical behavior.
