The normalisation of the far-right continues

Far right poses fastest growing terror threat.

Just like in the US, the language of ‘mainstream’ right-wing politicians is encouraging this type of intolerance.

The thing I don't get about this story is how it implies that previous terrorist threats weren't from the far right. I'm struggling to think of what recent attacks (and prevented attacks) weren't based on far right ideas.

It's not.

It's a tinypic error message, which means the pic is probably still in your cache, but nobody else's!

I have no idea what you mean. I've googled tinypic and seen that there are problems. Was the little yellow chap showing as my avatar?

Is it now showing a galaxy?

Left and right wing are Eurocentric terms describing social divisions within capitalism.

They don't apply to Islamic State.

That's limiting it to economics. I don't think anyone would argue with Hitler being described as right wing despite for a period improving the lot of gentile workers. Similar to the dangerous mistake people make in converting the economic term "neoliberalism" to cover liberal social policies.

Funny you should say that as Richard J Evans addressed that claim reviewing a crackpot book in Friday's Guardian.

Quote

Rather, he set a political course for rearmament as part of his drive to war that pushed industrialists such as Thyssen and Krupp to devote ever more resources to arms production in the interests of increasing their profits. The result was heightened exploitation of the workers, as the overheating of war production forced them even before 1939 to work longer hours without extra pay. This was not socialism, whatever else it was.

Again I don't think there's any value in using left/right to define pre modern systems or schisms.

The wee guy is in your signature on the desktop site.

Thanks. I'll look for the 'how to' on this site and find out what I'm doing wrong.

eta     OK found out that I didn't even know I had a 'signature'. I was confusing signature with avatar and my settings are set to 'not view signatures' so I couldn't see mine. I've tried deleting it.  It was 7 years ago I originally did this, my memory isn't that good.

Thanks for the heads-up.
