No, but if you're a penalty taker you're basically guaranteed an extra 5-10 goals a season depending on how many your team gets

It obviously helps with goal scoring records, but at the same time there's usually two or three players waiting to take your place if you miss. We had Buchanan take one at the start of the season, and Vaughan (who has taken them before) was injured so it defaulted to Nisbet. There's no guarantee you'll get penalties (we went a season and a half before we got one against Stranraer - we then fucking missed it).

Ironically, Dumbarton fans warned us of Nisbet's penalty he had before where he blazed it over the bar. Since then he's been excellent with them, and hopefully it continues. Even without his penalties, he's still looking an excellent poacher and, on current form, is the best forward in the league.

I do find that Centre Forwards taking penalties is becoming more of a bugbear of mine as time goes on, it's only done to boost their tallies and really gives a false impression of their legitimacy, Wayne Rooney was always the worst contender for this, he quite undeservedly holds Scoring Records for Club and Country placing himself ahead of others who didn't take them and who have found their records taken off them, was he really a better CF than Lineker, I don't think so!!!

Chris Duggan scored 15 goals for us last year but would have had around another 8 if he had taken out penalties!!!

Tappy-ins shouldn't count in the final reckoning!!!

Lineker took pens for England.

Lineker took pens for England.

He took some, they were in enough shoot-outs for us all to enjoy, but he wasn't the designated taker, in Linker's time it was usually Hoddle, Waddle, Pearce or Beardsley who took them IIRC!!!

Not sure if you are serious or on the wind up but I will reply anyway .

I find it remarkable that you would think a striker would not want to score a penalty . Surely that is their main objective , to score goals of any kind from open play or indeed penalties ??

Given our record (or lack of) for receiving and scoring penalties in the previous 2 seasons, I personally think Nisbet’s penalties should count double.

Indeed. After the last couple of years of watching us score no more than about 50% of the few penalties we did receive, watching Nisbet confidently tuck the ball away from 12 yards has been quite the novelty this season.

Lineker scored 4 penalties from 5, Rooney 7 from 7.

Official odds are up on McBookie, with Calum Gallagher and John Baird both looking quite attractive:
Rory Loy/Liam Buchanan - 5/1
Dale Carrick/Lewis Vaughan - 6/1
Ryan Thomson (!) - 8/1
Ryan Wallace/Darryl Duffy - 10/1
Calum Gallagher - 14/1
Mark McGuigan - 16/1
John Baird/Andy Jackson - 20/1

Was there ever odds on Kevin Nisbet? Too late now for a bet likes, just curious to what he was when the above was released.

There probably was odds but with Ross Forbes being a Dumbarton fan, he probably laughed at any odds of Kevin Nisbet scoring double figures never mind finishing as top scorer.

Kevin Nisbet follows me on Twitter, so he clearly has good taste in online bantz. For that reason alone I'm pleased to see him doing well - shows what happens when a team play to a striker's strengths.

I think the names after 20/1 were all 25/1 - whether or not Nisbet was on that list or not I don't know.
