Keeper should have stopped that. Meanwhile Hartson goes on an OTT but predictable defence of him while Ian Darke, for the eighty third time, regurgitates his drivel about the keeper's wife having twins proving yet again why the crowd only option simply has to be introduced.

Why did they abolish Last 16 replays this season when EPL's (farcical) "staggered winter break" - which needn't clash with them anyway - doesn't start until next season?

I can not recall 100% the reason behind the decision but I think it could be about reducing fixture congestion, especially for clubs still involved in European games.  I could be wrong though.

They're scrapping them and moving Last 16 midweek in order to give EPL the weekend... EPL will then hand 10 clubs a weekend off one week then 10 the next. It doesn't start till next season, though.

It seems a pointless waste of time changing it for me if that's the case, it might be me being old fashioned but I would rather have the cup games at the weekend.

It's a con and an out-manoeuvre of FA by EPL.

FA top brass think a winter break will help England, and result-on-the-day and floodlit games will reinvigorate the cup.

EPL want to pay lip service to a break but not have a proper one, and grab another weekend for TV games.

So from next season you've got FA Cup R3 & R4 on weekends with replays, R5 on midweek without, QFs on weekend without... meanwhile EPL 'winter break' will hardly be discernible. Quite why they scrapped the Last 16 a season early I'm unsure.

What's the played to a finish format here?
Extra time first or straight to penalties?

Also, has a similar format been adopted up here this season from the quarters onwards?
The reason I ask is that Thistle and Ayr have rearranged our cancelled league game for the night when a replay may be likely to take place if we were to draw with Hearts.

Extra time then penalties.

Only in England; we still have replays up to and including the quarter-finals.
