Auchinleck Talbot 2018/19

Recommended Posts

Amazing that Talbot were congratulated at Westminster. Of course the haters will be all over this like a rash but there is no taking away the pride of the village.

Detailed below a Motion raised by our local M.P. Alan Brown in the House of Commons on 12 June -----

"That this House congratulates Auchinleck Talbot on its most recent Junior Scottish Cup victory at Rugby Park, Kilmarnock, defeating Hurlford United 3 - 2 with a thrilling climax of 2 goals in injury time to clinch the cup; notes that the victory was Auchinleck's 12th Scottish Cup triumph, which adds to its reputation as Scotland's most successful junior side; observes that for a village of 3,500 to produce so many successful teams is remarkable; further notes that no other team has won more than five Scottish Junior Cups in total and that the current management team of Tommy Sloan and Allan McLuckie have won six cups in their time at Talbot so far; notes that the community support is second-to-none and the village of Auchinleck was a sea of black and gold decoration showing the pride the community has in the football club; and notes that it was first time in the tournament's history both finalists and the venue for the final were from a single parliamentary constituency, which was a proud day for Kilmarnock and Loudon constituency."

Nice touch by the Talbot after presenting Beith with a wee memento for winning the Super League. For all the slagging we get we always manage to rise above it. EPPP

He didn't say East Ayrshire he said Kilmarnock and Loudon which New Cumnock is not a part off.

Will be most welcome. Please remember that the stand is 50p entry and no young teams are allowed in it.

Pretty sure that with all the other issues an mp should be raising in Westminster right now a semi pro football team winning cups (regardless of how impressive their relative success has been) should be way down his list.....

Nice touch by Talbot with the trophy though.

But the point is he is praising the community and the fact that no matter how much Auchinleck gets kicked in the nuts the people rally to there football club. No doubt he has other pressing issues to discuss but he made a small village very proud.

Part of his job is to represent his constituents both inside and outside Parliament. He won’t have many opportunities to talk directly about Auchenleck so used the Early Day Motions system to do this. This takes up very little if any parliamentary time.

Parliamentary constituancies and local goverment administrative districts do not share the same boundaries.

Beith also presented Talbot with a similar gift at the Ayrshire Cup tie for their Scottish Cup win a few days beforehand.

Two big rivals but a lot of respect for each other.

I would maybe check that one.

1939 Scottish Junior Cup Final - Rutherglen Glencairn v Shawfield Juniors - 0.7 miles between the two clubs' home grounds.

But is Hampden in the same parliamentary constituency as both teams

He may well wish to speak of how the community has been doing well to rally around a football club, and he may feel this fits with his role in representing his constituents. But this is a political tactic that deflects from the politicians having to discuss and try to fix the real issues faced in almost every Scottish community.

As I said well done Talbot on their success but I remain sceptical of the need to raise such success in Parliament, sure it makes Auchinleck feel proud, but how it tackles any of the real issues in the community I don't know.

Park looks very good, not sure anyone would need artifical surfaces if they could spend the time, effort and money to get their park like that. Well done all involved!

Hampden has nothing to do with it, it's in the opposite direction.

I suspect, though, that Rosebery Park (Shawfield's ground) was actually just a few yards over the boundary into Glasgow, as "Boundary Road" is at the traffic lights outside Shawfield Stadium and Rosebery Park was just round the corner towards Polmadie.

So it's probable that, in 1939, Rutherglen was still a Royal Burgh with its own constitency, while Shawfield (less than three quarters of a mile along the same road) was actually part of Glasgow. That's certainly how it is now.
