Gartcairn Jnrs 2018 / 2019

Recommended Posts

What a result for Gartcairn today beating super premier team Kilbirnie ladeside on their home pitch. The cairn where forced by the sjfa to play away from mtc Park, there was a couple of options but eventually we accepted kilbirnies offer to play there.
Great set up and hospitality so we thank you for that.
As for the game, kilbirnie opened us up a few times early on and deservedly scored the opener, just after the ref awarded them a penalty as the young keeper fouled the attacker bearing down on him, thankfully the resulting penalty rebounded off the post and kicked to safety.
This got Gartcairn going and after a few attempts eventually Kevin Ross squeezed one over the line from a corner.
Half time 1-1 but could easily have been 4-4

Gartcairn for me were the better side in the second half and took control with kev ross getting a deserved second, this seemed to deflate kilbirnie and shortly afterwards deco Thomas Kilmartin scored an absolute peach of a free kick to take us to 3-1
The gaffer Jamie Mckenzie made a few changes to see the game out.
Kilbirnie pushed again and scored on the 89th minute to make it squeaky bum time but the cairn saw it out to win 3-2.

Summary, underdogs took the day.
Great team performance but special mention to young Chris the keeper, kev and deco.

Team spirit, organisation and desire will always win when the opponents have neither

Just taking in what a big scalp that was yesterday, not only being forced to play away from home ( needs looking at) but the display we put on after the first twenty minutes.
First half finished 1-1 and deservedly went in equal but felt we had by far the better half and if they were honest would agree the shoreline of 3-2 flattered them.
Having said that the league is our bread and butter and it’s back down to Ayrshire next week to take on second placed ardrossan winton rovers.
Thanks also to the small band of fans that followed us down yesterday, roughly 25 in a crowd of 110. We appreciate it

Wow, now that’s a result, it tops last weeks scottish cup triumph against Kilbirnie,.
As we’ve stated the league is our bread and butter and we were on our travels back down to Ayrshire to play second placed Ardrossan Winston Rovers. Great set up in ardrossan and made to feel most welcome, thank you for the hospitality.
Now for the game, two very evenly matched sides, first half the physicality of ardrossan stood out, indeed deco was clearly a marked man with three fouls on him in quick succession early doors.
Typical junior game in first half with both teams fighting and scratching for every ball, jake Morris had to come off injured in 28 minutes after both he and rovers right mid went for the ball, no quarter given by either player.
This resulted in jake being booked and ultimately having to be replaced.

Half time 0-0

Second half started the way first ended and it took both teams fifteen-twenty minutes to spark something, ardrossan broke thou and the ball ended up in the net only for ref to call offside, personally don’t think it was offside but we take a break when it comes.
On 78 minutes there’s a scramble in front of ardrossans goal and Hepburn managed to poke home at the third attempt.
Gartcairn took confidence from this and started playing the free flowing football they have displayed so many times this season.
83 minutes after a tackle just inside the box the cairn were awarded a penalty, super cool Kevin Ross slotted home from the spot to seal the points for table toppers and still unbeaten Gartcairn.

Summary... good game for the neutral to watch and easily best team we have played so far.
Didn’t play our best but ground out a victory, if I had been writing it was a draw or ardrossan won I couldn’t have complained either.
As team performances go it’s up there with the best, not on the eye but for grit, determination and spirit.

Ps 10 yellow cards in a game that wasn’t dirty, you can tend to tell when there’s an assessor in the crowd.

Once again thank you to our loyal band of supporters, growing every week, need you to tell your friends and help keep pushing us week in week out.

Got 2 breaks, player to left is playing winton on before you score an own goal. Scorer of first goal is offside(10:41) when initial shot is played (he's the only one in the six yard box) then scores after the rebound.

Usual excellent highlights from David Brown assisted by commentator Kenny 'Fuxxsake' Cochrane.  An very entertaining game for the first ever meeting of both Clubs.

Two offside decisions to debate. Own Goal by Kevin Ross heading bye Chris Smith as Jamie McKenna was standing beside him and  David Hepburn clearly offside in center of Winton Box and picking up the pieces from Ryan Donnelly's shot to put the Cairn ahead. Poor decision making on edge of box by Lennox allowed the day to be sealed for Cairn with a penalty.

Thanks to the Winton Fans and Gartcairn committee and supporters for donating to the North Ayrshire Foodbank.

We need games like this at our park to help try to build a support, we accepted to easily the last time with kilbirnie as we thought it was about the amount of fans who would possibly be in attendance. We could’ve dealt with what was there and want the opportunity to show it this round.... and hopefully next lol

Very positive, I said the same thing before the last round in regards building a support.
